Dragon Girls pull off an upset

The 6th seeded Adrian Dragon Girls Basketball team pulled off a huge upset against the 3rd seeded Red Rock Central Falcon Girls Basketball team on Monday, February 26th.  A winter storm canceled the yearly Super Saturday event held in Worthington, MN. The Adrian Dragon girls had to travel up to the higher seeded court, which was in Lamberton, MN to take on the Falcons in a site that wasn’t so neutral like playoff time tends to be. With all odds going against the Dragon girls, they knew they had their work cut out for them if they wanted to continue in tournament play. With the Falcons being 3 seeds higher than the Dragons, and having home court advantage due to the storm, the Dragons prepared for a game consisting of attacking a 1-3-1 zone and cutting off the baseline.

Junior, Avery Balster, led the charge for the Dragons putting up 12 points during crucial times, Balster also pulled down six rebounds and had stellar defense to cap the night. Senior, Hannah Bullerman was also a key player for the Dragons in their win. Hannah put up nine points and dished out three assists while grabbing five rebounds. Senior, Paige Bullerman also pulled down ten rebounds for the team along with tallying eight points.

For the Falcons Vanessa Kedl had 10 points, and was the only player to score in double digits. Kedl also had seven blocks against the Dragons. The Dragons were able to outrebound the Falcons 41-30. The Dragons defeated the Falcons with a score of 36-34 ending the Falcons season and advance in the 3A South Tournament play.
