Dragon Girls Fall to SWC

The Adrian/Ellsworth Dragons lost to the SWC Eagles on Tuesday, January 28, in Edgerton with a score of 64-48, making this one of their lowest scoring games of the season.

To start the game the Dragons came out slow and it took awhile to find their groove but once they did they were playing right along with the Eagles. Great passes were being made by all teammates and girls were taking good shot selections. The Dragons were running plays efficiently and their offense was remarkable. In the first half  the A/E Dragons had 15 assists and were shooting 63% from the field. The girls went into the locker room at the half with a sense of pride and determination.

The second half is when the Dragons fell apart and the Eagles went on a run. Right away in the second half the Dragons started the battle with a defense that was a little less than impressive. The Dragons struggled to find a girl to box out. Not keeping the Eagles off the boards and  giving up 19 offensives boards and 20 defensive boards was their downfall. Having the defensive end struggling made the offensive end that much harder to execute. The A/E Dragons achieved only four assists in the second half and shot 22% from the field. The Dragons also shot only 29% from the FT line which didn’t help matters. In the second half the Dragons put up a mere 15 points compared to a first half 33.

Junior, Jayden Zebe, tallied the most points with 12. Zebe also grabbed eight rebounds for the Dragons. Senior, Ashlyn Meester, put up 10 points and dished out five assists. Junior, Marisa Lehnhoff, had a great night for the Dragons. She put up a solid nine points for her team, grabbed eight rebounds, completed five assists, blocked two shots, and shot 67% from the field. While Senior, Kristina Cauwels, shot 80% from the field, tallying eight points for her team and grabbing two steals for the night.
