After suffering their first road game loss of the season last week, the Adrian girls basketball team grabbed the first lead of the game against the Luverne Cardinals and made it hold up for an eventual 44-37 win. The win pushes the Dragons overall record to 2-1.
Lexi Slater got the Dragons on the scoreboard first when she turned an offensive rebound into the first basket of the evening. Baskets by Moriah and Paige Bullerman made it a 6-0 Adrian advantage, 5 ½ minutes into the contest. Another two-pointer by Paige Bullerman upped it to an 8-1 advantage. The Dragons would maintain their seven-point lead through the first half as they held an 18-11, halftime lead.
Paige Bullerman led the Dragons through the opening period, scoring all eight of her points in the opening half. Defensively, the Dragons held the host team to just three fieldgoals, but sent their opponents to the freethrow line eight times where they made five points.
Miah Kunkel upped the Adrian lead to nine points to start the second half before the Cardinals battled back with a 4-0 rally to cut the lead to just five points at 20-15.
