Dragon baseball falls in conference opener

Edgerton /Southwest Minnesota Christian handed the Dragons a 12-2 loss via the 10-run rule, Tuesday, April 9th in Adrian.

It was all E/SWC from the start as they scored six runs in the top of the first inning.  Noah Reyne led things off for Adrian with an infield single in the bottom half of the inning.  Reyne was able to steal second and eventually scored on a single by Brent Hokeness.  After one inning of play, the Dragons trailed 6-1.

The Dragons were able to hold the Dutchmen scoreless in the second inning.  Adrian scored one run in their half of the inning.  Ian Stamer walked, stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.  After two, E/SWC 6, Adrian 2.

The Dutchmen extended their lead in the top of the third with three more runs to give them a seven run advantage. The Dragons went down in order, to leave the game at 9-2 Dutchmen.

The Dragons were able to pick off a runner at first to end a Dutchmen threat and keep the deficit at seven in the fourth inning.  However, Adrian couldn’t cut into the lead as they again went down in order.

The fifth saw the Dutchmen lead extend to ten as they scored three more runs.  The Dragons went quietly in the bottom of the inning, to end the game via 10-run rule.

Ian Stamer took the loss on the mound for Adrian, going 0.1 innings and allowing five runs (three earned). Reyne relieved Stamer and allowed four runs (three earned) in 2.1 innings.  Reyne stuck out four Dutchmen hitters.  Grant Jansma followed Reyne, pitching 1.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) while fanning two.  Lance Luettel threw 0.2 innings, allowing no runs while striking out one.

Reyne and Hokeness had the only hits for Adrian in the game.  Hokeness had an RBI while Reyne scored a run and stole a base.  Ian Stamer stole two bases and accounted for the other Adrian run.

The Dragons fell to 1-3 (0-1 conference) on the season.

The Dragons are scheduled to head to Slayton to take on the MCC Rebels on April 18th and then will host the HLO/Fulda Coyotes on April 23rd.
