It is the beginning of a new era in Ellsworth. With the retirement of long-time Principal/Superintendent George Berndt the Ellsworth School District had some big shoes to fill. The School Board feels confident they have found the person for the job in new Principal John Willey.
Originally from Pipestone, MN, John taught Business Education in Hillsboro, WI, located in West Central Wisconsin. He comments “Ellsworth reminds me a lot of the school I started teaching at in Hillsboro. Ellsworth is just a little smaller.” John moved on to become a Computer Coordinator in Muscoda, WI, where he later became the Principal/AD, a position he held for five years. In total he spent 25 years in education in Wisconsin. John was then hired in Windom, MN, at the Alternative Learning Center where he spent four years as the Principal there.
John has three daughters, his oldest Abbie is getting married in two weeks and works as a dietician. Middle daughter Alyssa is attending Dental School and Leah, the youngest, will be entering her Senior year at U of W., Eau Claire. John currently lives in Jackson with girlfriend Sara and her three children.
John has been in his office at Ellsworth School since July 1 getting up to speed on his duties as Principal there. He is currently finishing up his Superintendents degree and will have earned that in May, 2015. At that time he will add the title of Superintendent of Ellsworth School District.
As it comes closer to the end of summer vacation and teachers and students start filing the hallways and classrooms yet again Principal John Willey looks forward to getting to know the students and letting them get to know him. His first impression of Ellsworth and the School District he states “I feel this is a very community connected school and look forward to getting to know the students and the community.”
