Neal Gibson, of Adrian and former resident of Lismore, traveled to Rupert, Idaho to attend the July 18th funeral for his mother, Betty Gibson. She passed away suddenly on July 7th.   Betty was a hard worker and owned her own dry cleaning business.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, raising Shih Tzu dogs, and loved the outdoors.  Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye, and included Neal and Becky's little girls, Kaylin, Alissa, and Laura.  Our sympathy to Neal and his family.

The Steve Lenz Memorial motorcycle ride raised about $1700 for local charities.  Thank you to everyone that donated or participated in any way.

Summer is a busy time for Relay for Life, with walks taking place in many towns around the area.  This past weekend, Willmar was the place to be! "Just DEW it for Vicki" was the theme of Vicki Dew's team.  Bright lime green t-shirts with purple lettering were worn by family and friends as they walked the track, sold walking tacos, funnel cakes, and various craft items to raise funds for cancer research. Vicki's co-workers at Wal-Mart are also part of her team, who over the years has raised over $250 thousand dollars!!  The day was cool, misty, and breezy but cleared off just in time for the lighting of the luminaries.  The many decorated bags around the track glowed throughout the night and the weather was perfect.  On Saturday the Mayor of Willmar, Frank Yanish proclaimed July 27, 2013 as "Vicki Dew Day" and a benefit dinner/auction was held in her honor at the 1st Baptist Church.  Former Senator Dean Johnson commended Vicki for her many years of Navy service to our country as well as her involvement in the Willmar community.  Other speakers included Kim Lippert, General Manager of Wal-Mart and Tina Erpenbach of the American Cancer Society.  Warren Sundstrom, Food Service Manager for Meals on Wheels, unveiled the new signed naming the cafeteria at West Central Industries, “The Vicki Dew Cafeteria”.  Vicki was pleased to have her sisters there: Carol Giroux of Wheaton, Deb Lutmer of Lismore, Rita Drew of Charlevoix, MI, and Donna Dew of Chania, Crete-Greece.  Others attending from the area were Dave & Cody Lutmer of Lismore, Will & McCall Lutmer of Sioux Falls, SD, and Cindy Bullerman of Adrian.

A burger feed complete with homemade fries and soft-serve ice cream will kick off Old Home Day on Friday, August 2nd at the Fire Hall.  The free outdoor movie will begin at dusk on the “big screen”.  A street dance will be held on Saturday evening sponsored by the Lismore Bar.

Cate Koehne and Lucas & Maddy were guests in the home of her sister, Phil & Cindy (Sieve) Klomp in Maplewood.  They all enjoyed watching the production of “Beauty & the Beast” in North St. Paul in which Annette & Shelby Klomp were a part of the cast.  Karla (Krogman) Gedell visited with her mother, Alma Krogman, at The Oaks in Luverne on Friday.

The Lismore Fire & Rescue will have their annual fundraiser of all-you-can-eat BBQ Pork or Turkey supper beginning at 5:00 on Saturday, August 17th. Firemen are selling tickets, which also entitle you for chance to win an assortment of prizes.

On Wednesday, July 24th, Jerry & Mary Kellen and Bob & Jamie LeBrun headed north to Duluth.  On Thursday, they watched NINE tall ships come into the channel….one of them with a 123’ mast.  It was quite a sight!  They returned home on Friday evening in time for Mary to prepare for her 50th class reunion on Saturday.

Our Lady of Good Counsel, Class of 1963, met on Saturday, July 27th at the Wilmont Senior Center for a reunion.  Everyone enjoyed happy hour and a prime rib supper catered by Countryside Inn.  Since their last reunion was ten years ago, they had a lot of catching up to do!  The class had 24 graduates and 13 attended the reunion. They have lost two classmates to cancer, Harry Scholtes and Margie Pacholl.   Those attending were:  Jack & Nancy Brake and Jerry & Mary (Driessen) Kellen of Lismore; Robert & Connie (Larson) Probst of Albert Lea; Darwin & Bonnie Hendel of Minneapolis; Jim & Sally Einck of Glendale, AZ; Leland Persing of Lonsdale; Dave Balk of Buffalo; Dale & Karen Hurlbut of Lincola, CA; Wayne & Jean Bullerman of Hardy, VA;  Vonnie (Vaske) Huisman of Sioux Falls, SD; Dan & Lois (Schmidt) Einck of Worthington; and Elaine (Balster) Smith of Oakland, CA. A good time was had by all!
