Two former Adrianites are 6,000 miles from home . . . and discover that they are a mere day's drive away from each other! On May 23, Dr. Brandon Wolf, son of Bob and Cindy Wolf, Adrian, learned that he would be heading to Shanghai, China, to join the medical team which treats the Chinese Olympic Athletes. Four short days later, on Memorial Day May 27th, Dr. Wolf headed to Shanghai.
Unbeknownst to Dr. Wolf, another Adrianite, Rona Vaselaar, daughter of Eric and Meredith Vaselaar, was preparing to fly to Beijing, China, for the summer. Ms. Vaselaar landed in Beijing on June 7th.
Shanghai has a population of more than 23 million people; Beijing's population is more than 20 million people. As for Adrian, with a population of approximately 1,200 it was just a matter of time before the local Wolf and Vaselaar families learned that each had a child in China for the summer.
Dr. Brandon Wolf received his undergraduate degree from St. John's University, and achieved his Doctorate through his studies at Northwestern Health Sciences University. Dr. Wolf works for Caron Chiropractic in St. Paul. Caron Chiropractic contracts with a firm called Attack Athletics that contracts with the Chinese government to treat the Olympians. They work in teams, one Orthopedic Surgeon, two Chiropractors, one Physical Therapist and one Athletic Trainer. Dr. Wolf will return from China August 20th.
Rona Vaselaar just finished her freshman year at Notre Dame, and is studying the Chinese language at the University of International Business and Economics. She will return to the states on August 3.
Both sets of parents were quick to alert their child in China as to the presence of the other Adrianite. Shanghai is approximately 665 miles from Beijing, so it is unknown if the two will be able to meet. It is just comforting to know that there is someone from "back home" spending time in the same foreign country, thousands of miles from the prairie.
