A Mass of Christian Burial for Steven A. Shea, 61, of Le Mars, IA, was held Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Le Mars, with Father Kevin Richter officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars, IA. Steven passed away on Tuesday,March 26, 2013 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Steven Alan Shea was born on December 24, 1951 in Worthington, Minnesota to Robert and Elizabeth (Haberman) Shea. He graduated from Fulda (Minnesota) High School and furthered his education at Mankato State University. After earning a degree in education, Steve took a position as an intern in Denver, Colorado. He taught in Adrian, Minnesota for a few years prior to taking a teaching position at Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars in 1983. Steve taught elementary physical education and computer classes. Along with teaching, Steve coached almost every sport at Gehlen. On July 9, 1993, Steve married Elizabeth “Betty” Nemmers at St. Joseph Catholic in Le Mars. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. His dedication to Gehlen Catholic Schools was evident by the countless hours he spent teaching and coaching along with the respect he earned from his fellow teachers and students. Steve was a strong Minnesota Vikings, Twins and Gophers fan. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty Shea of Le Mars, IA; two sisters, Dee Dee Bestege and her husband Lyle of Faribault, MN and Kelli Janke of Slayton, MN; sisters-in-law Mary Lou Mayrose, Marjorie Livermore, Barb Baack and Marcella Nemmers all of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Michael and Jeff; his mother and father-in-law Leo and Lucille Nemmers; and a brother-in-law, Marvin “Sonny” Nemmers.
