On Saturday, December 22nd at 10:30 am, our big Adrian High School gym, usually so noisy with kids playing sports, laughter, yelling and cheering was strangely silent. We who attended the huge funeral service for well-loved Kyle Lehnhoff were also silent except to hug one another or whisper greetings and wipe away tears. Pastor Billy Skaggs, Pastor of Living Rock Church in Luverne, celebrated the service for Kyle, age 35, husband of Jill and father of four daughters, Marisa, Olivia, Kamry and Charlee. Kyle and Jill and family live on an acreage in Westside Township. Kyle was the Computer Technician in Adrian High School for eleven years. Good friend Dale Bullerman was the scripture reader and good friend Randy Strand gave a wonderful eulogy. Kyle and his family were members of the Living Rock Church in Luverne and Kyle’s visitation was also held at the church. A luncheon was served in the middle school gym and serving were members of their church and good friends. Burial was at the Lakeside Cemetery in Balaton, MN. Kyle grew up in Balaton and graduated from Balaton High School in 1996. Kyle loved the outdoor sports and was an avid hunter. He loved his Savior and was ready to begin a new life with his Lord. Blessed be the memory of Kyle Lehnhoff and God bless his family!

The Adrian Care Nursing Home and the Assisted Living Cottages put on a lovely Christmas open house party for the Happy Helpers and volunteers at both places on Thursday, December 21st from 1-4pm. Many of the residents were around to enjoy the lovely refreshments and all the visiting. It wa a good afternoon!!

Kay Cox was one of hundreds who attended mass at St. Catherine Church in Luverne on Christmas Eve at 4:30 pm. The beautiful choir was under the direction of former Adrianite Ron Rother. The music started about 3:45 pm and the church was full as well as the two “gathering places”. Father Jennings was the celebrate. He called all the “little ones” to come forward and Fr. Tom told them a Christmas story as they sat on the steps of the altar or on the floor. There were about forty children and each received a small gift! It was a delightful time for the children, parents and guests gathered to hear about the birth of Jesus. We never get to old to hear of our Saviors birth!

A delicious oyster stew and a most delicious wild rice soup was served at the Cheryl and Mike Cox home following the church services. Attending were Kay Cox, Alan Cox, Andrew and Elissa Wenthe and beautiful 6 months old Annaliese Wenthe! Of course the family dogs “Bill Cox” and “Finn Wenthe” also attended. The dogs were really so well trained and lay silent under Cheryl’s beautifully decorated dining room table. It was a beautiful Christmas Eve celebration.

St. Adrian had a 10 pm mass on Christmas Eve. The “young couples” choir sang many Christmas songs and the church was beautifully decorated with about five trees and a large advent wreath. There was a large tree in back decorated with many candy canes for the children and guests. I understand all our churches were beautiful this Christmas season and we should never forget, The Reason for the Season!!

Loretta Gengler was a Christmas Day guest at the home of Marcella and Cyril Gengler of rural Lismore. All the Gengler children were home and it made for a lovely, noisy, reminiscing fun day! The Gengler “kids” told Loretta to say hi to me. A great family!

Virgil and Mary Schutz had a houseful over the Christmas as Mark & Judy (Schutz) Barlow & family of Rochester and Tom and Karla Schutz & family from Prior Lake were guests! It was good to see them and get a hug at Christmas Eve mass.

Congratulations to our own John Faber who was honored by the city of Adrian with a presentation of the Edward J. Becker Community Service Award!! John states that he will always be of service to Adrian if called upon. John has served Adrian in many areas and he is always willing to listen. Thank you John for your years of faithful leadership!

I got the giggles again when I saw the photo Rod Scheidt in the elf outfit. Did you notice how serious he was?!

The family of Celine Klein celebrated Christmas at her home last week. They were all gathered to eat, play cards, visit, play more cards, laugh and reminisce and play more cards! Some of the family were absent due to illness and other commitments, but those gathered at moms home had a great time!

Congratulations to our Adrian Dragon wrestlers! They won big over Pipestone, Benson and Montevideo. Adrian toes to West Fargo for the Rumble on the Red tournament on Thursday so by the time you read this they wrestled or cancelled because of the snow storm.

I am sure many of us were a little sad to learn that Diane Thier decided to retire this year. Diane spent twelve years as District #2 Nobles County Commissioner. She was so involved in so many aspects of Nobles County and she was not afraid to speak out loud and forcefully on certain proposals that were presented. Diane will still stay involved with county projects and she is very involved with our libraries and as one user, I am very happy for Diane! Thank you for your twelve years of dedication Diane!

Sharon and Wayne’s family Darin and Kris Jones & Hanna & Kayley and Jennifer & Darren Osten & Josh & Ella came New Years week and celebrated Christmas at Wayne and Sharon’s. Good food, sledding, presents and games made it a very good Christmas celebration.
