Congratulations to Adrian football players who were chosen by the 2012 Daily Globe All-Area Football Team! Chosen for Offense was: Jake Diekmann and Defense were Adam Garms and Jake Tiede. Honorable Mention were: Jordan Dingmann and Nate Loosbrock! The team played well together and were third in final standings!
In the December 14th Daily Globe, and highlighted, was a great article about Adrian’s Jordin Kopplow. Jordin had a triple-double (14 rebounds, 13 points and 10 steals)! The Dragons beat Red Rock Conference in basketball 65-48! The girls are undefeated.
Pinochle scores for 12-13-12 were as follows at Big Orv’s. 1st Cannon Mueller & Mike Schettler FINALLY--- 2nd Marilyn Bergman and Connie Lais - 3rd Marie Schwabeck and Betty Nyens - 4th Jim Reese and Steve Banck. Big Orv says the girls getting some money took long enough!
This writer attends most, if not all the home games, in sports, but wrestling. I make such a foul of myself at the few wrestling matches that it is better to stay home and read about them in the papers! Anyway I went to the boys basketball game on December 11th when they played Murray County Central Rebels. The boys played so hard and took so many tumbles and lost! They are an amazing team and never give up and there is not a senior on the team! Watch out for next year! They are a determined bunch of young men! It was good to see Spencer Wieneke at the game (home for Christmas break) and visit with him for a short time. Before the game started we were privileged to hear Brooke Echter sing the Star Spangled Banner. That young lady has lots of talent and never missed a note! She is the daughter of Ryan and Lisa Kruger.
The Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne was filled with family and friends for the funeral service of Rosa Tofteland Johnson. Rosa, 86, passed away December 8th at Sanford Hospital in Luverne. Her funeral services were lovingly planned by her three children Dennis and Sandi Johnson of Oregon, Dr. James Johnson and Mary Beth of Sioux Falls and daughter Barbara and Carson Stensland of Bemidji. Rosa has six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren! The children planned the services after their Mother’s wishes. Special music was chosen by Rosa which included world renown opera singer Emily Lodine Overgaard who sang “This is My Father’s World.” Emily was accompanied by Dr. James Johnson, Rosa’s son. Dr. Johnson directed the famous Augustana College Choir for many years. Rev. Wayne Hoffman, a brother-in-law sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and it was powerful! Officiating at the service was Pastor Josh Enderson of Grace Lutheran Church. Rosa graduated in 1943 from Luverne High School and there were several from that class including this writer. The congregation was mostly Norwegian and Rosa’s children saw that there were platters of lefsa served at the luncheon! It was so good to see such a large crowd for Rosa who knew so many people and always had a kind word for all. She was so proud of her Norwegian Heritage and passed that love on to her children and grandchildren. God Bless the memory of Rosa Tofteland Johnson!
Six members of the Catholic Daughters #247 of Adrian drove to Worthington last Thursday, December 13th to put on their annual Christmas party for the clients at the Development Achievement Center (DAC ). The center has 65 clients and 22 employees at this time. Santa Claus appeared, much to the delight of the clients. Santa gave a small gift to each person and the CDA Members served lots of Christmas “goodies” and root beer floats! It was a fun two hours and the clients presented the CDA members a lovely hand painted canvas bag they had made. We all remembered the reason for the season at this time! Thanks to Lynette Domeyer for all your extra loving work!
The Adrian School District presented “A Christmas Concert” on Monday, December 10th in the large gym. The gym was packed on the West side and hundreds of chairs were filled, with extras brought in for the event. Sarah Jensen, daughter of former Adrianites, Laurie and Curt Jensen is the director of the Middle School Choir, Deb Mc Neill is director of bands and also director of the High School Choir! Looking over the program there were 54 Middle School choir students; 51 Middle School students; 80 High School choir students; 36 High School band students and 20 High School Jazz band students and High School Pit Band students! That makes a total of 161 students that are involved in music! Thank you students and teachers for a delightful evening!
The Catholic Daughters will be having their annual Pot Luck supper on Thursday, December 20th starting at 6:30 p.m. This is also their regular meeting night. Please bring a dish to pass. If you like to participate in a white elephant gift exchange please bring a useable gift or a fun item. These days we need a smile and have a little joy! You are welcome to be a guest or your hubby! Remember Thursday, December 8th.
The tragedy in New Town, CT, has left us speechless! This news will be forever in our minds! I was glued to CNN most of the weekend. President Obama gave an outstanding tear filled talk Sunday night. May God bless all the grieving parents, relatives and friends in this school and State.
