As a nation we are proud of and salute our service men and women who have served fighting for freedom. We have holidays focused on remembering the sacrifices many have made for our country. The Lismore Legion and Sons of the American Legion (SAL) gave special recognition this past Memorial Day to three Civil War Veterans from Lismore. The recognition was thanks in large part to the research of SAL member Bruce Loosbrock.

Bruce was reading the “years ago” column in the Wilmont Shopper that Audrey Brake submits. While reading Bruce came across the following excerpt from the Lismore News written in August of 1906. Reading that piece of news peaked Bruce’s interest and sparked him to talk with his close friend Joe Rabon, who is a teacher at Sioux Falls Public Schools and a passionate Civil War buff. Together they researched and found three civil war vets buried in the Lismore City Cemetery.
