Rapid City officials issued a plea for volunteers who were licensed funeral directors to help the city's overwhelmed funeral home directors. Merlyn heard that plea. . .he would go out to Rapid City and help in any way that he could.
Cathy Marsh Staff Writer On the evening of Friday June 9, 1972, an extremely large thunderstorm stalled over the Black Hills, just to the west of Rapid City. That storm dumped 15 inches of rain on an area that was already saturated from previous rains. In the town of Keystone, 15 inches of rain fell in 6 hours.
