As the month of June swiftly retires itself, The Dawg Days of Summer Veteran’s Summit is right around the corner. The final details are being hammered out as you read this, including the final lineup and making sure that all of our sponsors will be recognized on the posters that will start going up soon.
The event will start at 1 PM at the American Legion Post 32 on Maine Street and will also be set up across the street in the parking lot there. Inside of the Post many of those that attended last year will again bring information on their organizations to display. A couple of new comers include the Sioux City Vet’s Center and the North West Iowa Veteran’s Group. The powerful photography of Mike MacDonald will again be on display as long as information from My Bivy, The Dawgs Project, and Service Dogs for Veterans from Rocky Mountain Dawgs Project.
Across the street there will be a short program at 2:00 in recognition and appreciation for our local law enforcement personnel. For Dawg Days II we decided that honoring these men and women was something we could do for those that protect and serve us here at home. In both the military and law enforcement, men and women put themselves in the position to run towards the sound of gunfire, not away from it. They also deal with long shifts that include overnights, nasty weather, helping the injured in emergencies, and working holidays and weekends. They are the Thin Blue Line between honorable citizens and those that wish to do us harm. On Saturday, July 8th we will honor all that can attend from Nobles and Rock Counties.
After the program we are very happy to announce that at least one K9 team from Nobles County will be in attendance. There is a chance that another team may show up, but we have confirmation on one. This team will do a demonstration of their abilities for the public to view. If you have never seen this in person it is a really interesting and exciting demonstration.
Dawg Days II will conclude at 4 PM. During the entire program we will again have food and refreshments on hand. We at Post 32 would love to see a great crowd at this years Veteran’s Summit. Come for the information, program and demo but also enjoy some strong community time!
