Funeral services for Darlene Becker, 82, formerly of Adrian, were held Sat., Dec. 2, 2017, at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Darlene passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at St. Therese of New Hope in New Hope, MN. George Boom Funeral Home & Crematory of Sioux Falls, SD was in charge of the arrangements.
Darlene L. Lohr was born Aug. 21, 1935, in Watertown, SD to Chester and Thelma (Dahl) Lohr. She attended country school and graduated from Waverly High School in Waverly, SD. Darlene married Russell Becker on June 26, 1955, in Revillo, SD. The couple made their home in Adrian, MN, where they owned and operated a café. When their twins were born, Darlene stayed home to raise her children. After the children were older, she worked at Lucy’s Café and later as a teacher’s aide for the Adrian School System. Darlene and Russell moved to Sioux Falls in 1985. She worked for the Argus-Leader until retiring in 1998.
Church was very important to Darlene. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family and baking. Darlene was a people person who welcomed both friends and strangers into her home. Above all, she cherished her family and spending time with them.
Survivors include her four children, Dale (Sue) Becker of Sioux Falls, SD; Gail (Steve) Buysse, and Russell (Cheri) Becker, both of Maple Grove, MN; and Debbie Heikes of Worthington, MN; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 8 siblings, Doris (Charles) Lausen of Hawarden, IA; Donna Borns of Watertown, SD; Mable Noeldner of Eau Claire, WI; Barbara Ries, Charlotte (Allan) Hansen and Chester Lohr, all of Sioux Falls, SD; LeRoy (Arla) Lohr of Antioch, CA; and Allen Lohr of Chicago, IL. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Russell and her parents.
