Cross Country holds end of the year banquet

The Adrian Cross Country Team held their banquet in the Elementary Commons last Sunday, November 12th to conclude and celebrate a successful season. The Country Side Inn of Adrian provided a wonderful meal for all in attendance.

The team had a successful year that was full of improvement by all of the runners. The Dragons had two junior high all conference runners, Abbey Leopold and Bruce Farinella, and two varsity all conference runners, Moriah Bullerman and Brady Henning. The year ended on a high note when senior Brady Henning made it to the state meet in Northfield, Minnesota.

The team also voted on its team awards. This year, Abbey Leopold and Bruce Farinella were awarded the Most Valuable Junior High awards for their efforts. The Most Improved award goes to the runners that the team feels like have made the most improvement from this year to last or from the beginning of this year to the end. Freshman Gracia Elias, junior Christian Weidert and sophomore Caleb Hornstein claimed this award for their progression all season. The Most Promising award goes to the runners that the team feel like will be leaders in the future for the program. Eighth grader Hiltyn Heitkamp and junior Christian Weidert took home the Most Promising awards. The last two awards given out were the Hardest Worker and the Most Valuable. The same individuals on the boys and girls side claimed these awards. Sophomore Moriah Bullerman and senior Brady Henning both took home Hardest Worker and Most Valuable for their commitment and leadership all season.

Letterwinners for the Lady Dragons were Courtney Penning, Halle Heitkamp, Annika Elias, Moriah Bullerman, Alysha Wieneke, Gracia Elias, and Hiltyn Heitkamp. On the boy’s side, Letterwinners were Brady Henning, Mitchell Veld, Christian Weidert, and Caleb Hornstein. Brady Henning will also be receiving a certificate for All-State Academic. To qualify for this award, a runner must be a senior running at the state meet with a GPA above 3.75.

Excellent job this year Dragons! Your coaches are extremely proud of the accomplishments you have made this season and are eagerly looking forward to the future! Also, thank you to the seniors of the cross country team who are Courtney Penning, Brady Henning, and Mitchell Veld. The team has appreciated your hard work and leadership throughout the years.
