Conference Leader Defeats Adrian Girls

Coming off their most disappointed loss of the season the Adrian girls were looking to get back on track against the Red Rock Conference leaders, Red Rock Central Falcons, unfortunately their scoring troubles continued in the opening period as they were defeated 64-42. After opening the 2017 with five straight wins the Dragons have now lost two consecutive games to drop their record to 8-9. While the Falcons of RRC remain perfect at 12-0 in the Red Rock Conference, Adrian’s conference record slipped to 7-4 where they stand in fifth place.

It was all RRC to open the game as they scored the game’s first 13 points taking a 13-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the contest. A Kaitlyn Christians field goal at 13:46 gave the Dragons their first points of the night and an Alexia Kemper basket made it 16-4 in favor of the visitors. A Taylor Heidebrink fifteen footer from the freethrow elbow gave Adrian their ninth and tenth point of the first half as the Falcons had flown themselves to a 34 point halftime lead at 44-10.

With Mikayla Jeffers scoring all 10 of her points in the second half, the Dragons were able to outscore RRC 32-20 before settling for the 22-point loss. After shooting just 5 of 20 in the first 18 minutes the Adrian girls connected on 50% of their attempts in the second half making 13 baskets in 26 tries. When the dust had settled the Dragons had cut the lead down by 12 points, but it wouldn’t be enough in the 22-point (64-42) loss.

To go along with Jeffers double digits points, Christians connected for double-digits as well with a team leading 14 counters. Paige Bullerman contributed six, while Kemper and Moriah Bullerman chipped in a pair of fieldgoals for four points apiece. Taylor Heidebrink and Lexi Slater both added a basket for two points each.

RRC held a four-rebound advantage, grabbing a team total 28 caroms to the Dragons 24. Paige Bullerman collared nine rebounds to lead her team, with Slater and Moriah Bullerman adding five and four rebounds respectively.

Freshmen point guard Moriah Bullerman charted a season high 10 assists as the Dragons recorded 16 passes leading to Adrian points. As a team, Adrian committed 21 turnovers to the Falcons 17 miscues.
