Weather forecasts looked to cancel the Warrior Invitation for a second year in a row at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, IA. Thankfully the wet weather moved east over night and the rolling route awaited the dragons. The warm September 22 was much more bearable with cloud cover, especially with the lack of trees.
Junior high had the longest 3K or 1.9 mile race distance of the year. A test for the junior high racers but they all gutted it well. The junior varsity and varsity had the usual 5K distance.
Injuries and illnesses continued to plague the dragon distance runners. Khailee Nelson, Jasmine Kohorst, Brody Loosbrock and Ashlee Christians were all out with injuries or illnesses. Fortunately, Moriah Bullerman and Halle Heitkamp were back.
First up was a combined junior high girls and boys race. Morgan Penning dropped to junior high to help heal her muscle soreness. She joined Abbey Leopold and Josh Barr. The girl’s side had 49 runners and the boys, 66.
