The Dragons traveled to Tracy on September 4th for their second contest of the season. Sixteen teams made the trip to Tracy to compete, which allows for a lot of racers. The first race of the day was the Junior High girl’s 2000 meter run. Hunter Penning was competing in her second career meet and ran 9:41 for the difficult course. Penning placed 30 out of 68 girls. The Junior High boy’s race had Bruce Farinella looking to have a strong performance on the same 2000 meter course. Farinella completed the run in 8:49, placing 41st of 78 runners.
Next up for the Dragons were two new runners to the program. Senior Cole Domeyer and freshman Ky Ruppert lined up to run the 4000 meter Junior Varsity race. Domeyer did not seemed phased by his first race, getting out to a strong start. He finished the race in 19th place, running the course in 18:01. Ruppert also had a strong start to the contest, battled throughout the race and completed the run in 23:27.
Finally, the Dragon girls took the course and looked to improve on their first performance at Mt. Lake. Junior Moriah Bullerman had another solid race as she led the Dragons to a 7th place finish as a team. Individually, Bullerman placed 5th overall in the 77 runner field with a time of 21:33. Freshman Hiltyn Heitkamp ran 25:49 over the hilly course. Gracia Elias was the third scorer for the Dragons, running 26:49 and was followed very closely by Halle Heitkamp and Alysha Wieneke. Heitkamp and Wieneke finished the 5000 meter run in 26:49 and 26:51 respectively.
The Dragons will travel to Worthington for the Turkey Trot on Thursday, September 13th, then to Windom on Monday, September 17th.
