Author or Imposter? Find out April 17!

By Meredith Stanton Vaselaar

Adrian Branch Librarian

With “An Evening with Brian Freeman” less than a week away, I asked the author if he was ready for his visit.  This is what he replied:  “I have a special place in my heart for the libraries in southwestern Minnesota.  Several years ago, I did a series of library events in places like Ortonville, Fulda, Lake Benton, and Windom.  My wife Marcia and I obviously spent a lot of hours driving around the lonely highways and through thunderstorms and past miles of corn fields.  I really fell in love with the drama of the area, and I decided then and there that I wanted to set a book in that part of the world.  That turned into my stand-alone novel SPILLED BLOOD — and that book won the award for Best Hardcover Novel in the International Thriller Writers Awards, which was one of the great moments of my life.  So I trace that all back to those events in southwestern Minnesota.”

Mr. Freeman is looking forward to the program – as well as hoping that the weather will cooperate.  That is a sentiment that we can all relate to.  There are many reasons to come to the program:  award winning author of nineteen novels and counting; it is FREE and would make for a GREAT date night – cookies and beverages will be served, there will be prizes, and your date will be impressed; there is, seriously, nothing better on TV on Tuesday nights; unfortunately, it will be too wet outside to do much, so come to the program; the author is easy-going and funny – the program will be very entertaining;  it doesn’t matter if you have read the books or not – it will be fun just to listen to Freeman talk about how he came to write, and how he comes up with his characters and plots; and there will be freebie-give-aways.  Really, there are many, many reasons to stop in and see what all the fuss is about (and have cookies – did I mention the free cookies and free beverages?).

The night of the program, there will be a drawing in which one lucky audience member will win a copy of Freeman’s newest book.  Attendees at the program will also have the opportunity to purchase books by the Author.  Brian Freeman will be happy to sign books for anyone who would like him to do so.

After the author talk, we will be giving away (through a drawing) coupons for pizza, or food, at the following establishments, who graciously contributed FREE Stuff for our program: Pizza Ranch-Luverne, Kum & Go-Adrian, Sports Page-Adrian, Pizza Hut-Worthington, and Hickory Lodge-Worthington. More than half a dozen coupons and gift certificates will be given away that evening.  People must be present to win.

“An Evening with Brian Freeman,” Tuesday, April 17, 2018; 7:00 p.m.; at the Adrian Elementary School, 515 Oklahoma Avenue, Adrian, MN.  If you have any questions, please call the Library at:  507-483-2541.
