Arrows defeat Dragon matmen

The Adrian wrestlers hosted the Pipestone Arrows last Thursday in a single dual.  The Dragons dominated the JV portion of the event by winning all six of the matches by fall, before dropping the varsity dual by a 52-21 margin.  The Arrows took advantage of four Adrian open weights in the dual.

Breyer Hieronimus started things off for the Dragons, earning a first period fall over JJ Martens in 1:33.  Logan Taylor kept things going with a fall in 39 seconds over Rogan Smith.  The Arrows took the lead for good by winning the next four matches, recording two falls, a decision, and accepting a forfeit.  The 145 pound match was one of the better matches of the evening, as Preston Nelson squared off against Eric Lange.  After a scoreless first period, Lange chose to go down in period two.  The Arrow sophomore was able to take a 1-0 lead in the bout as he recorded an escape in the period.  Nelson went down in the third period and was able to earn a reversal with about 10 seconds left in the period to defeat Lange by a 2-1 margin.

Pipestone extended their lead by winning the next 6 matches.  Scot Edwards ended things on a positive note for the Dragons, as he earned a fall in 42 seconds over Jamison Vanderwal.

In JV action, Quentin Wolf went 2-0 with a pair of falls, while Isaac Bullerman, Marshall Wagner, Cameron Wieneke, and Axel Martinez all recorded falls in their individual matches.

Preston Nelson was named the varsity OW, as his reversal late in the match secured a 2-1 victory for him. Axel Martinez battled back from an early deficit to pin his opponent in the second period to claim the JV OW honors for the Dragons.
