Adrian Students Graduate from D.A.R.E.

Deputy Chad Kempema, from the Nobles County Sheriff’s Department held a D.A.R.E. graduation for 5th grade students of Adrian, 5th & 6th grade students of Ellsworth and 5th grade students of Round Lake – Brewster at the Adrian Elementary on Friday, May 6.

Deputy Kempema begins teaching D.A.R.E. in January and concludes in May with a graduation and a field trip to follow later in May at Arnolds Park in Okoboji, Iowa to celebrate the kids’ accomplishments.  

Every student is required to write an essay about what they have learned in D.A.R.E. and how they will use those skills in the future.  One or two essay’s are chosen from each class to represent their school and they are awarded a medal. The winner’s were: Adrian – Tony Remakel & Leah Kruse; Ellsworth – Brooke Custer & Claire Popkes; Round Lake-Brewster – Sawyer Drent.

To conclude the graduation ceremony,  a K-9 demonstration was performed by Officer Dustin Roemeling of the Worthington Police Department (formerly of the Nobles County Sheriff’s Department) and K-9 partner “Frank’ee.
