Board Meeting
August 19, 2019
Board Vice Chair Chris Wolf called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on August 19, 2019. Members present: Bullerman, Kruger, Kunkel, Madison, Wolf and Wieneke. Also present were Superintendent Graff, Principal Koehne and Dean of Students Schettler, staff members VanderWal, Engelkes, Kruse, Kruger and Cook,
Board Member Lenz was absent.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve the agenda by adding item H. Transportation to the Superintendent’s report, motion carried.
Vanessa VanderWal presented information for a band and choir trip to Nashville, Tennessee on June 16-21, 2021. Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Kruger to accept request for a out of state band trip, , motion carried.
Mike Cook presented the building and grounds report.
Presented information to repaint four exterior doors at the Elementary where the paint blistered off during the sub zero cold blast in January 2019. He received a quote from Kruger Painting to sandblast, prime and repaint the doors at $1700. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to accept quote, motion carried.
Gave an update on the Elementary Boiler project.
Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Madison to approve the minutes from the July 15, 2019 meeting with corrections noted, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve the minutes from the July 25, 2019 meeting with corrections noted, motion carried.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Wieneke to approve the claims and accounts for July 2019, motion carried.
The July 31 2019 reports were reviewed. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Madison to approve the account balances for July 2019, motion carried.
Mrs. Koehne, Mr. Schettler and Mr. Kruger presented the Elementary Dean of Student’s Report, MS/HS Principal’s report and Activities Director’s Report.
Mr. Schettler presented a resignation from J VandeKieft as a paraprofessional at the Elementary School. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Madison to accept resignation, motion carried.
Mr. Schettler requested to hire J Robson as an Elementary Paraprofessional. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to accept request to hire, motion carried.
Mr. Schettler requested to hire R Snyder as an Elementary Paraprofessional. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Wieneke to accept request to hire, motion carried.
Mr. Schettler requested to hire S Dohlmann as an Elementary Paraprofessional. Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to accept request to hire, motion carried.
Mrs. Koehne requested to hire M Cowart as a Middle School/ High School Paraprofessional. Motion by Kruger, seconded by Wieneke to accept request to hire, motion carried.
Mrs. Koehne requested to hire J Luettel as a Special Education Transportation Paraprofessional. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to accept request to hire, motion carried
Mrs. Koehne presented a request for maternity leave from Mrs. Klosterman effective January 2, 2020 for six weeks. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Bullerman to accept request, motion carried.
Presented the Resolution to accept donations from Adrian PTO in the amount of $2500 for 20 Revibe Watches for Elementary School and $5,033 for the Elementary Field Trips taken in May 2019. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to accept donations, motion carried.
Mrs. Koehne presented information for the new CEO Instructor, Katie Baustian and explained that CTE Exemption will need to be requested for licensure for this position. Motion by Madison, seconded by Wieneke to approve request, motion carried.
Mr. Kruger presented the MSHSL Video “Why We Play” for board viewing.
Mr. Kruger presented the request to renew membership with the Minnesota State High School League. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to renew membership, motion carried.
Mr. Kruger presented a request to hire G Harner as Head Track coach. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve request, motion carried.
Mr. Kruger presented a request to amend the fees the District pays for certified referees with Volleyball from $160 to $190, Basketball from $240 to $250 for a two man referee squad and $330 for a three man referee squad, Football from $500 to $600 per referee crew, Softball and Baseball from $160 to $200 and Wrestling refereeing fees to be determined yet. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Wieneke to amend the referee rates for the 2019-2020 school year, motion carried.
Discussed the Minnesota State High School League dues and the process of who is responsible for theses dues. Upon discussion wording will be added to the Activities Handbook and the Staff Handbook regarding payment.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
Presented an Elementary Administrator Mentor Agreement with Mr. Russell Lofthus to conduct staff evaluations and offer mentorship for Mr. Schettler for up to 10 days at $400 per day. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Wieneke to approve request, motion carried.
Announced that the District needs to set the Truth in Taxation Date, Time and Location. Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Madison to set the date for Monday December 16 at 6 PM in the District Conference Room, motion carried.
Presented the Seniority List for review. Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to table approval until the September meeting, motion carried.
Presented the Teachers for tenure. Motion by Madison, seconded by Bullerman to table approval of Tenure until the September meeting, motion carried.
Presented the Playground Agreement with the St. Adrian Parish for the 2019-2020 school year in the amount of $1300. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to approve the agreement, motion carried.
Presented the Lease for Ground with St. Adrian Parish for the propane tanks. Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to approve lease, motion carried.
Presented the Adrian Country Club Agreement for use of the course for Cross Country and Golf at $1250. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to approve agreement, motion carried.
Presented information on the Highway 91 project and transportation concerns with Adrian Bus Company and bus routes being rerouted due to construction. Adrian Bus Company will be asking parents with daycare children to sign a letter of acknowledgement with the daycare regarding the pick-up and drop-off of children at such location.
Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the August meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:01 P.M., motion carried.
