Adrian Public School Board Meeting Adrian, MN 56110

March 18, 2019

Vice Chair Wolf called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on March 18, 2019.  Members present: Kruger, Madison, Wieneke and Wolf.  Also present were Superintendent Graff, Principal Koehne, and staff members B Steven, S Story, R Schettler, J Kruger, M. Cook, and J Wange.

The following Board Members were absent: Bullerman, Kunkel, and Lenz

Motion by Kruger to nominate Madison as acting board clerk in the absence of Kunkel, seconded by Wieneke, motion carried.

Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Madison to add items G – MN DOT – Hwy 91 project, and Item H – Community Ed to the Superintendent’s Report and to approve the agenda, motion carried.

Mike Cook presented the building and grounds report.  Continue to have issues with the heat exchanger on the high school boiler.  Have numerous water leaks at the high school mostly ceiling tile that was damaged.  Water Damage in the Elementary Pre-School room with water coming in along the south wall.

Board Member Bullerman arrived at 6:03 PM.

Motion by Kruger, seconded by Bullerman to approve the minutes from the February 25, 2019 meeting, motion carried.

Motion by Madison, seconded by Wieneke to approve the claims and accounts for February 2019, motion carried.

The February 28, 2019 reports were reviewed.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Wieneke to approve the account balances for February , motion carried.

Jay Wange presented the Activities Director’s report

Gave a spring sports participation update.

Announced the volunteer coaches for spring sports.

Presented the resignation of Head Girls Basketball Coach.  Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Madison to accept resignation, , motion carried.

Presented a request to have M Wagner as a volunteer coach for football and a weight room supervisor.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison pending background check, motion carried.

Requested to have G Harner as a throwing coach for Track and Field, motion by Madison, seconded by Kruger to accept request, motion carried.

Board member Lenz arrived at 6:15 PM.  Vice chair Wolf turned meeting over to Board Chair Lenz.

Mrs. Koehne presented the Elementary and MS/HS Principal’s report

Presented a donation from Brian and Joyce McCarthy in the amount of $50 to go towards the MS/HS PBIS account.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Wieneke to accept donation, motion carried.

Presented two checks in the amount of $35 each from Your Choice.  Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kruger to accept donations and apply to the MS/HS PBIS account, motion carried.

Received feedback from the teachers with 75% preferring option 2 of the calendar.

Gave Curriculum and technology updates

Presented a staff resignation from A Glammeier at the end of the school year. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kruger to accept resignation, motion carried.

Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:

Presented the revised 2018-19 budget showing increases for the replacement of the boiler at the Elementary, PSEO tuition, fuel costs and hiring of an additional Paraprofessional.  Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Wolf to accept revised budget, motion carried.

Reviewed the ICS Consulting, Inc. agreement for the Elementary boiler project.  Motion by Bullerman to accept the contract bid of $42, 250 for project management, to solicit bids and negotiations with contractors, with an addendum to have the project not exceed $400,000 without prior board approval.  Motion seconded by Wieneke, upon roll call vote: Wolf – No, Kruger – Yes, Madison – Yes, Wieneke – Yes, Bullerman – Yes, Lenz – Yes, motion carries 5-1 in favor.

Discussed referendum planning for a November 2019 vote.  Upon discussion a planning session has been set for Wednesday April 3, 2019 at 6 PM in the conference room.

Presented the two options of the school calendar.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Bullerman to accept option 2 with class in session on October 17, 2019, motion carried.

Presented a scholarship donation from Lismore Booster Club in the amount of $500 for two scholarships for the class of 2018.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Wolf to accept donation, motion carried.

Chris Wolf gave an update on the MSHSL meeting with Ellsworth Public School, who initiated the meeting to discuss athletic pairing options.  Upon discussion it was agreed to host an informational Community Meeting on April 2, 2019 in the High School Library.

Received a letter from MN DOT on a project along Highway 91, which will allow the District to lower our fiber optic cable to the Elementary and move a utility box.  Requested permission to hire Loosbrock Digging to handle the project.  Motion by Wolf, seconded by Wieneke to approve request, motion carried.

Presented a request to hire Greg Harner as the Community Ed Summer Rec Activities Director.  Motion by Kruger, seconded by Wolf to accept request, motion carried.

Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Madison to adjourn the March meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:32 P.M., motion carried.
