Board Chair Lenz called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on February 25, 2019. Members present: Bullerman, Kruger, Kunkel, Lenz, Madison, Wieneke and Wolf. Also present were Superintendent Graff, Principals Koehne and Lofthus, and staff member M. Horn.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to add item G – Closed Session to discuss a student issue to the Superintendent’s Report and to approve the agenda, motion carried.
Mr. Graff presented the building and grounds report.
Continue to replace lights with LED lights at the High School.
Continue to have issues with the Elementary Boiler.
Will be placing an order for heating fuel for both buildings.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve the minutes from the January 28th and February 5, 2019 meetings, motion carried.
Motion by Wolf, seconded by Madison to approve the claims and accounts for January 2019, motion carried.
The January 31, 2019 reports were reviewed. Motion by Wieneke, seconded by Bullerman to approve the account balances for January 31, 2019, motion carried.
Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report:
Gave an update on what is happening at the Elementary.
Mrs. Koehne presented the Activity Director’s report and her MS/HS Principal’s report.
Discussed the student instructional weather makeup days and the options available. Upon board discussion, motion was made by Bullerman, seconded by Wieneke to extend the school day by 30 minutes beginning March 4 through April 26, to make March 15 a full student day and April 22 as a full student day, motion carried.
Discussed the teacher contract weather makeup day and the options available, motion by Wieneke, seconded by Wolf to allow the teachers to use the 5 student contact days, 2 professional development days and have the option to work an additional 30 minutes per day beyond the instructional time but not to exceed two contract days, motion carried.
Discussed E-Learning and adding this as an option for make up days for the 2019-2020 school year. Board gave consent to proceed with the development of an E-Learning plan.
Presented a teacher contract for S. Voss as a Math Instructor for the 2019-2020 school year. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to accept contract, motion carried.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
Presented the Southwest West Central Service Cooperative contracts for the 2019-2020 school year at $147,458.03. Motion by Madison, seconded by Kruger to accept contracts, motion carried.
Presented Mrs. Koehne’s title for 2019-2020 school year will be the K-12 Principal, motion by Wolf, seconded by Wieneke to approve designation, motion carried.
Discussed the 2019-2020 school calendar and various options.
Presented the Achievement and Integration Revenue Budget for 2020. Motion by Wolf, seconded by Kunkel to accept the revenue budget, motion carried.
Presented a scholarship donation from Rita Domagala in Memory of LeRoy Domagala in the amount of $250 for one scholarship given to the class of 2019. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to accept donation, motion carried.
Presented a donation from John and Cindy Heitkamp in the amount of $50 towards the Food for Thought program. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kruger to accept donation, motion carried.
Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to adjourn the February meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:13 P.M., motion carried.
The Board of Education entered into a closed session at 7:17 PM to discuss a student disciplinary action. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to adjourn the closed session at 7:23 PM, motion carried..
