Regular School Board Meeting

Monday, March 20, 2017
Vice-Chair Wolf called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on March 20, 2017. Members present Bullerman, Kruger, Kunkel, Madison, Sieve and Wolf.
Also present Superintendent Graff, Principal Lofthus, Dean of Students Koehne, Athletic Director Wange and staff members Williamson and Engelkes. Member Lenz was absent.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger, to approve and amend the agenda by adding item E., Food Service RFP to the agenda, motion carried.
Motion by Madison, seconded by Kunkel to approve the minutes from the February 27, 2017 meeting, motion carried.
Motion by Sieve to approve the claims and accounts for the month of February 2017, seconded by Bullerman, motion carried.
Mr. Graff presented tax abatement request resolution for a period of five (5) years. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to approve resolution, motion carried. Superintendent Graff presented the February 2017 reports. Motion by Madison, seconded by Sieve to approve the account balances, motion carried.
Mr. Lofthus presented his Elementary Principal’s report.
• Presented an alternative option for a display/trophy case at the Elementary from what was proposed at the February meeting. Following discussion, a motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to accept Mr. Lofthus’ proposal, motion carried.
• Presented a request to add an additional position for a full time Social Worker/Guidance Counselor at the Elementary. Motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kruger to accept request and to advertise for position, motion carried.
Cate Koehne presented her Dean of Students report.
• Mr. Wange, Athletic Director, presented his Athletic report by giving a wrap up of the winter sports, giving participation numbers for spring sports, and future needs for coaching opportunities. Also discussed updating the conference banners.
• Presented information and class schedule changes due to MCA testing for April 19. Motion by Kruger, seconded by Madison to approve class day change, motion carried.
• Presented information for an additional CTE Course offering through Minnesota West – Luverne Campus, – Introduction to Medical Careers.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
• Presented a Building and Grounds update.
o Presented information regarding the fuel tank inspections. All tanks passed.
o Presented information about replacing the Kabota tractor and the Grasshopper mower. Proposed trading them in for a Skid steer/Bobcat with bucket, forks, sweep and blower, new Grasshopper with a 72 inch deck. Will get additional information and pricing and present later. Also stated the 2017-18 preliminary budget has included a 5-year equipment lease at $10,000 per year.
• Presented the 2018 Achievement and Integration Budget, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Madison to accept budget, motion carried.
• Presented a preliminary informational budget for the 2017-18 school year.
• Presented a donation from Bruce and Barb Olson to be used towards a Tim Christensen Memorial scholarship, motion by Bullerman, seconded by Kunkel to accept the donation, motion carried.
• Updated the board on the Food Service Request for Proposals and the mandatory preproposal meeting was held and only one vendor showed up.
Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to adjourn the March meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:26 P.M., motion carried.
