Adrian Publc School Board Meeting Adrian, MN
July 17, 2017
Board Vice Chair Wolf called the regular meeting of the Adrian Board of Education to order at 6:00 P.M. on July 17, 2017. Members present Kruger, Kunkel, Sieve and Wolf. Also present Superintendent Graff, Principal Koehne, and staff member Vollink.
Members Lenz, Madison and Bullerman were absent.
Motion by Kunkel, to amend the agenda by adding Item G. Choir Robes/MPA Fundraiser, Item H. Jr Golf Tourney, and Item I. Donation – Carl’s Farm Store, seconded by Sieve to approve the agenda, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve the minutes from the June 2017 meeting, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger to approve the claims and accounts for June 2017, seconded by Sieve, motion carried.
Superintendent Graff presented the June 2017 reports. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to approve the account balances for the month of June, motion carried.
Mr. Graff presented Russ Lofthus’ Elementary Principal’s report.
Gave an update on the summer projects.
Requested to purchase window blinds for the new windows installed and the two office windows. Received a quote from Scholastic Equipment for corded and cordless blinds. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to purchase the cordless blinds, motion carried.
Cate Koehne presented her Principals Report and Mr. Wange’s Athletic Director’s Report.
The wrestling mat reconditioning is on hold for a year and will look at replacing next year.
Announced that the Apple computers in the MS and HS labs are on their last version of the software update that Apple supports and will need to look at replacing them. These computers were installed in 2007.
Explained a Creating Entrepreneurial Opportunities program for Junior and Senior students that could be available to students beginning the 2018 school year. There would be no cost to the district for the program. Just a student commitment.
Presented a teaching contract for A Glammeier as a MS/HS Special Education Instructor at Lane 1, Step 5, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to accept contract, motion carried.
Presented a teaching contract to rehire E Kiers as MS/HS Special Education & Geography Instructor at current Lane and Step, motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to approve contract, motion carried.
Presented a teaching contract to rehire G Harner as a Social Studies Instructor at current Lane and Step, motion by Kruger, seconded by Sieve to approve contract, motion carried.
Presented a teaching contract to rehire Cody Henrichs as an Art Instructor at current Lane and Step, motion by Kunkel, seconded by Kruger to approve contract, motion carried.
Gave an update regarding the upcoming Staff Development training date on August 10.
Mr. Graff presented his Superintendent’s report:
Presented a Building and Grounds update.
Gave an update on the skid steer and lawn mower purchases.
The roofing project at the High School will begin around August 1.
Presented additional information regarding the field paint striping machine from Pioneer Athletics, BSN Sports and Anthem Sports. Motion by Sieve to purchase the machine from Pioneer Athletics, seconded by Kunkel, motion carried.
Presented the revised Staff Handbook. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.
Presented the revised Parent/Student Handbook. Motion by Kruger, seconded by Kunkel to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.
Presented the revised Activities Handbook. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to approve handbook with revisions, motion carried.
Presented and reviewed the 2017-2018 Long Term Facilities Maintenance Budget for Revenues and Expenditures. Motion by Kunkel, seconded by Sieve to approve the budget, motion carried.
Presented and reviewed the 2017-2018 Long Term Facilities Maintenance Budget Statement of Assurances. Motion by Kruger, seconded by Sieve to approve the Statement of Assurances, motion carried.
Presented and explained the Minnesota Department of Education – Identified Official with Authority. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kruger to list Mr. Graff as the Official with Authority, motion carried.
Presented a teaching contract for K Diekmann as a ELL/Gr 3-5 Title I Instructor at Lane 1, Step 1, motion by Kruger, seconded by Sieve to accept contract, motion carried.
Presented a request to allow MPA (Music Parent Association) to host a salt sale fundraiser to raise funds to purchase new choir robes. Motion by Kunkel seconded by Kruger to approve request., motion carried
Discussed a request for Community Ed/Summer Rec to help fund a Junior Golf Tournament at the golf course. Following discussion it was decided to declined funding this activity as it is not coordinated by the Community Ed/Summer Rec program
Presented a donation from Carl’s Farm Store, Adrian in the amount of $1500 to be used towards educational programs. Motion by Sieve, seconded by Kunkel to accept donation, motion carried.
Motion by Kruger, seconded by Sieve to adjourn the July meeting of the Adrian Board of Education at 7:09 P.M., all voted in favor, motion carried.
