Dave’s mother is Betty Herman; his sisters are; Susan Fisher and Connie Hinrich and brothers are; Steve, Tom, Jerry and Doug, Randy Herman, Pat Herman, Tim Herman and Alan Herman. Our sympathy to the four children of Ceal Altman, who passed away September 13th at the Luverne Hospice Cottage. Ceal’s large funeral was Saturday, September 17th at St. Anthony in Lismore, Minnesota. Father Andrew Beerman officiated at the 10:30 Mass. Ceal was married to Glen Altman in 1958 in St. Adrian. She was one of 12 children born to Charles and Clare Henning. Her mother Clare raised her children after the untimely death of her husband, when the oldest child was only 16. God Bless Ceal’s memory.
St. Adrian held their annual fall dinner and bazaar Sunday evening, September 18th. There was a big change as everyone had to come through the N.W. doors and use the elevator or the steps. There were no problems with the change. Beef came from the ovens of Countryside Inn. My guests for the dinner were from Brandon and they all raved about the dinner and the delicious fork tender beef and real potatoes. I understand the “crew” peeled 250 lbs. of potatoes on Saturday morning with lots of ice to keep them cool. I had a piece of pumpkin pie that was delicious. The service was outstanding. All the young couples and “kids” did a great job. We’ll know the number by this week, but I’m sure over 500 were served. Thanks to co-chairman Mary Scheidt and Connie Hoffer for their great leadership.
The Vikings won even though they made many errors. Is Adrian Peterson seriously injured or shall we see him again?
Pat Thier and Alan Cox enjoyed watching the Vikings win in their new stadium. I’m sure there were others in this area who also saw the game.
Dave Wiertzema and his wife enjoyed a bus tour to New York and the area recently. Dave said they saw so much and the tour guides were great. He was impressed by the 9-11 Memorial.
Saw our Adrian Dragons lose big Friday night when they played Minneota. Our boys played against a very good team. There is always another game.
Adrian’s band were winners in the Turkey Day parade. Congratulations to our marching band and our drum major. As I have mentioned before, the 1966 parade for Turkey Day was perhaps the largest crowd ever because it featured Bobby Kennedy as the featured speaker and the Grand Marshall. I will never forget his two block walk down 10th Street and the sea of hands reaching out to him and the shouts of “Bobby” “Bobby”!
Many thanks to Gary and Eileen Henning for their gentle help given to their mother Carol Henning and friend Kay Cox while attending the funeral of Ceal Altman.
