Adrian News – July 20

Henry Hanson was laid to rest Wednesday, July 13th at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Cole McCormick.  Henry was well known for his love of farming and his love of horses.  He and his beloved late wife, Alice, were well known for  racing horses in Shakopee, MN.  Henry and Alice have two children, Jim and Julie (Mark) Lewis.  They have two grandchildren, Adam and Elaine.  Henry was buried in the little country cemetery in Little Rock Township, which he faithfully cared for, for many  years.   Dingmann Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.  Blessed be the memory of Henry Hanson.

A perfect weekend for Adrian’s Christmas in July.  The Ribs & Rims was a huge success.  Ray Bullerman told this writer they served over 600# of ribs to 1,200 guests.  What a great event with four towns; Adrian, Lismore, Rushmore and Ellsworth sharing in the proceeds, and the Adrian Ambulance service.  The service was great and the beautiful white picnic tables were kept clean by Adrian Baseball team members.  The beautiful antique cars were admired by all, but not touched.  Owners were impressed by the size of the crowds.  This writer was able to “inspect” the grounds the next morning and there was not even a tiny bit of paper or even a baked bean left in the large lot.  Thanks firemen for a great meal, it was delicious.  The food stand, under the capable hands and feet of Deb Kroon, was open  from 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning until they ran out of food late Saturday night.  The workers did a great job and the fire hall was spotless.  Thanks Town & Country for another great celebration.

It was good to see so many past class reunions and recognize some members on floats or not recognize.  Lots of shared memories and “remember when”?

Another ½ inch of rain early Sunday morning.  Thank you God.

Met a nice German lad who is visiting the Todd Reker family.

Good to sit by Mike and Alice Piper at the parade.  Alice’s dad, Emmanuel Wolf was happy to have people stop and greet him.

LuAnn Reisdorfer has taken over her late mom, Loretta Spartz’s cream puffs donation to the food stand.  She made three dozen.  Thanks LuAnn.

A steady crowd at the Elementary School for lots of fun and lots to see and buy.  Cloudy skies made for comfortable parade watching and waving.  Thanks to Adrian’s street crew who had all our streets clean for Sunday.

The “cucumber” lady, Judy Honerman was on her golf cart giving her great cukes to family and friends.  Thanks Judy.

Congratulations to our Adrian Legion Baseball Team.  Next week will be the “biggie”.

Heard from very reliable sources that pork and hamburgers were gilled at the food stand at midnight Saturday evening.  Great crowds at the parade, lining both sides of Maine Street.  This writer has heard nothing but praises for Christmas in July 2016.
