Marvin Steenhoven was laid to rest Friday, July 8th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Adrian with Pastor Kerry Boese officiating. Marv was a long time business man in Adrian, operating Steenhoven Ford. Marv’s son built his Father’s coffin which was covered with a huge American flag as Marv served our country in the Army. Marv’s son also sang and played his guitar at the services. Marv and his second wife Mary lived in Adrian for many years after his retirement. The many guests enjoyed cake and coffee, served by the Lutheran ladies after the church services. Marv will be buried at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston, MN with full military honors. Blessed be the memory of Marvin Steenhoven.
What a great rain! Did you remember to thank God? It’s never too late!
Dawg Days of Summer! Much has been written and spoken about that wonderful display in Adrian July 2nd across from our beautiful Legion Club. This writer spoke to Kevin Sonka , the father of David Sonka who was killed along with his beautiful dog “Flex.” It was a tearful display set up in the mobile unit and the sight of dozens of boots lining the pavers outside the Legion center was indescribable. Thanks Curt Hendel and crew for all your work planning and bringing in this display to Adrian!
Ann (Cox) Huemberg and daughters Tammy and Katie Stone spent a short time in Adrian with their mother & grandmother Kay Cox and with a few friends from the Class of ‘78. Doris Olson’s two daughters Deb and Donette came from Texas to visit Mom, Doris. Twin sons David and Daryl were here also to visit Mom and other family members. The class of ‘78 pals met at Big Orv’s for lots of laughter and making more memories. Jolene (Heitkamp) and hubby Mike Truwe along with Ann (Klein) and Cal Soloman were welcomed at Big Orv’s. A short but happy weekend!
Miss Kaitlin Leinen daughter of Ken and Vickie was the guest of honor at a bridal shower Saturday morning July 9th at the lovely Lismore Legion Hall. The bride’s chosen colors of blue, pink and touches of gold were used in decorating. The tables had many vases of beautiful pastel flowers. Lots of fruit and a huge array of pastries were served to the many guests. Lots of visiting and hot coffee were enjoyed by the large crowd as Kaitlin opened her many gifts. Kaitlin is the bride-to-be of Colt Bullerman, son of Mark and Renee. The couple will be married in the Luverne Presbyterian Church in July and will make their home in Adrian. Congratulations Kaitlin and Colt!
The community of Adrian was shocked to hear of the sudden death of well known and respected Henry Hanson of rural Adrian. Henry was known for his beautiful racing horses and his work with the Rural Electric Associations and chairman for many years.
The last “Two Buck” meal was provided by Virgil and Alice Cook. It was a great meal and enjoyed by 25 folks.
What a show of respect to see the large flag, flown at half mast at the Kum & Go in Adrian. What a tragedy for Texas to try to overcome. The incident in Minnesota is just a few blocks from the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. This writer has been in that area many times over the last 20 years or so.
Lots of family reunions last weekend. If you want your celebration mentioned in this column, call Kay Cox at 483-2718 or the Review at 483-2213.
