Adrian News – Jan 4

The following article was received by the Review on December 28th.  Kay Cox is privileged to put it in the Adrian News.

“I am Gerald Fritz of Omaha, Nebraska, son of Raphael Fritz.  The Honermann boys are first cousins.  My mother was their aunt.

Some interesting background information regarding the Honermann’s talent for building.  The Honermann boys in Adrian have an uncle in Mitchell,  S.D.  Victor Honermann has/had a successful cabinet business that is now run by his son, Mike.  To give you an idea of the work they do, more information is available at quailtywooddesigns.com.  Victor is semi-retired, but goes to the shop most days. The Honermann boys had another uncle, Clarence Honermann and he was a skilled carpenter in Adrian.  His handy work is on display at the St. Adrian Catholic Church  and other places around Adrian as well.

Kay Cox remembers my father and uncle Clarence as well.

My phone number is 402-566-8058 if you need more information. Thank you for your paper online.  Love reading about my hometown.”

I, Kay Cox, was proud to receive this information from the Review.  Yes, I do remember Victor and Gilbert Honermann.  My late husband, Tom, and I were married in St. Adrian on May 6, 1950.  We went on a short honeymoon and as we neared Omaha Tom said he wanted to stop and visit two young children at Boy’s Town.  He told me the story of the boys’ mother, Susan Honermann. She was a widow and was diagnosed with cancer, so she made arrangements to place her two little sons in the care of Father Flangan at Boy’s Town.  We visited the boys and we remained friends, even though we didn’t see each other very often.  That was 67 years ago this year.  Now you know the rest of the story.  I know many Honermanns and they are all good people.

Gleaned from the 12-24-16 edition of the Worthington Daily Globe written by Jane Moore.  Jane Moore wrote a great article about sleep apnea and how it affected Adrian’s resident Dave Wiertzema.  It was a long and very detailed article of what Dave experienced for many years.  Dave is now back to good health and able to enjoy life to the fullest.  Dave is happy to help his children and grandchildren and to enjoy coffee with the Subway “boys”!

A great Christmas cerebration was held at the St. Adrian CCD building during the holidays.  The Catherine (Bullerman) and Bob Bauer families had a noon pot luck dinner complete with Christmas Carols, games and lots of visiting.  All five D’s and the two daughters Mary and Leita and most of their families were present.  One friend called me with a tally report. There were 59 present and 22 “no shows”!  The “no shows” all had other commitments, but hopefully will be together next year.  Plans are all ready being worked on for 2017!  So good to write and read about these family reunions.

Wasn’t it fun to see and read about the “ugly sweater” contest?  This writer must find out why these sweaters were ever bought.

It was delightful to receive Mary and Wendell Wagner’s long Christmas letter and learn about all the Wagner “kids” and “grandkids”!  It was so good to see a picture of Great-Great Grandfather Andy Wagner holding his great-great granddaughter Ella Elizabeth.  Andy has spent 95 years on the same farm.  He and his late wife Geraldine raised a great family.  Thank you Wagner’ for your thoughtfulness in including this writer in your holiday greetings.

The Vikings last game this season was a great one.  They must have had burrs under their tails.  Lets hope 2017 will be a better year than 2016.

Kay Cox wishes to say a grateful thank you to her family, neighbors and friends who have been so kind to her in 2016.  God Bless all of you.

John and Karen Rust spent several hours New Years Day with Kay Cox. They came especially to show her pictures of their trip to Germany last summer. The pictures brought back many wonderful memories of Kay and Tom’s trip to the Passion Play in Oberammergau in 1990 and driving all over Germany before heading home. Tom was stationed in Germany during World War II.

Taken from the Argus Leader last week.  The little town of Bruce, S.D. had a devastating fire in one of their few last businesses.  The fire department was on the scene immediately.
