Adrian News – Feb 15

Last Thursday, February 9th, the Nobles County Commissioners met at the Adrian Subway beginning at 7:30 a.m.  Subway Manager, Karla Lenz, was prepared with lots of cookies and hot coffee.  The commissioners listened and met the people who came to see them.  It was a good morning.  I’m sure most everyone there feels our county is in capable hands of all the commissioners.  The commissioners are spending time in different towns to hear the concerns of everyone in Nobles County.

Good friend, Sandy Henning, dropped me off at the Zion Lutheran Church after the commissioners meeting so I could attend the funeral of well-known Lowell Sjogren.  Officiating was Rev. Kerry Boese who spoke and sang the homily for Lowell.  Pallbearers were eight grandchildren.  The good ladies of the church served a lovely noon luncheon before Lowell’s burial in Trimont, MN.  Lowell

Lowell will be remembered for the great care he took of his two wives, Mary and Phyllis.  He was employed by Hodgman and Sons Paving Company for 32 years.  Blessed be the memory of Lowell Sjogren, who taught us about humility and kindness.

Adrian’s Catholic Daughters Court #247 met Saturday morning, February 11th, in the St. Adrian Church parlor.  Red was the color of the day.  It was a great meeting conducted by Sue Buffington, Regent, from Luverne.  Lots of business was taken care of.  The Court is waiting on word of when the next Habitat for Humanity home is ready to be built in Edgerton.  Some members will be helping by providing food for the workers or even using a hammer if called upon.  Muffins and hot coffee was provided by Marlene Hieronimus and Vida Konz.  New member Micki Croat stepped forth and offered to be the vacant Vice Regent position.  Thank you Micki.  It was a good Saturday morning.

So good to read the sport section of the Daily Globe on February 7th about the Schilling brothers; Curt and Casey who are now qualified as referees.  These brothers plus third brother, Cody, all played basketball at Ellsworth High School.  Those boys plus Mom, Carla and Dad, Clayton, were a big part of the sports in Ellsworth.  Two of the Schilling boys; Curt and Casey, are engaged in farming.  Brother, Cody, lives and works in Sioux Falls.  It’s safe to say that the Schilling family put Ellsworth on the big map.

The United Methodist Church of Adrian put on a soup, sandwich, and dessert noon luncheon on Sunday, February 12th at the American Legion hall in Adrian.  The soups were hot and delicious and the service was great.  This writer saw folks from Adrian, Lismore, and Magnolia in the short time spent there.  It is so good that our local churches support one another.  The crowd was large and the folks spent lots of time visiting with one another.

Congratulations to Mitchell Lonneman, son of Ron and Leah Lonneman and Taylor Heidebrink, daughter of Scott and Dana Heidebrink.  They were crowned Snow King and Queen last week at Adrian High School.
