The Adrian High School presented their winter concert “Sounds of the Season” on Monday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym.  In one hour the large audience heard the Middle School Choir; the Middle School Band; the High School Choir; the Jazz Band; and the High School Band!  It was great music and the directors Erika Bierman and Dustin Boyum did a great job.  The students were so respectful and orderly.  It was a great one hour of music.  Thank you Adrian Music Department.

Daryl Dammer’s funeral was held December 13th at the Adrian Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Dan Dittman with three tapes of special hymns.  Daryl and his wife, Charlotte owned the Rushmore Café and were well known in the area. Daryl worked at the packinghouse for 42 years, and in addition he did construction work and was well known for having great gardens.  His casket spray was designed and made by Kelly McCarthy in Worthington and it contained all fresh vegetables and fruits.  Truly a beautiful tribute to Daryl.  Many other arrangemenrts were made by Jill Wolf who owns Adrian Floral.  After Daryl’s funeral and burial in Rushmore, the guests went to St. Adrian’s Education building where they enjoyed a delicious lunch served by the good ladies of the Presbyterian Church of Rushmore.  It is so great that our churches can work together for many events.  Daryl is survived by his wife, Charlotte, three children, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, three sisters and many in-laws and many nieces and nephews and many friends.  Blessed be the memory of Daryl Dammer.

Last Thursday, December 15th, the Catholic Daughters Court #247 held their annual potluck supper in the church parlor.  There were few ladies as a busload attended the beautiful Christmas at the Cathedral in Sioux Falls.  The potluck was great, as everyone always brings their best.  There was an exchange of gifts and many smiles and best wishes.  Thanks to Mary Mulder and Mary Reisdorfer for hosting the Christmas meeting.

Drive around and see the beautiful decorated homes in Adrian and also the farm homes.  I wonder how many lights Judy and Tim Honermann have put up?

Last week one day the doorbell rang and there stood niece JoAnn Klein.  She was on her way home to Conrad, Iowa from South Dakota. She is the wife of the late Bob Klein.  It is so good to be remembered by the young people.

Readers – I hope you all read the beautiful article written about the late Lorretta Spartz.  Loretta’s home was a “must stop” for many at Christmas time.  Her many trees, Santas, and lights was meant for everyone.  Loretta passed away two years ago during the Christmas season, but her daughter LeAnn and Ron Reisdorfer continue the tradition.  One of the trees is a shell tree.  Loretta used a tiny drill to make holes for dozens of shells. God bless the memory of Loretta Spartz

Special thanks for Wes Henriksen for “scooping out” his eight Tennessee Ave. apartments.  Big machines and hand scooping was a welcome sound. Just a friendly wave and he was gone.

The Christmas Concert at the Cathedral will be broadcasted on Station KELO 11 Christmas Day from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Dear Father Andrew Beerman said his last Sunday Mass on December 18th at St. Adrian.  Even though it was bitter, bitter cold (25 below), a large crowd was present.  To this writer it seemed like a quiet calm and sadness was present during the Mass.  Many parishioners came down to the church parlors for rolls, coffee and juice for Father Beerman. Mary Krogman, former secretary, spoke a few words of goodbye to Father.  The words came from her heart.  Fr. Beerman said to many, “Christians don’t need to say goodbye – they say see you later.”  What a lovely ending for his 4 ½ years as the priest at our four parishes.  Fr. Beerman will be taking on a new post at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont, MN, which includes the parish of Holy Family Catholic Church in East Chain, MN.  Fr. Beerman’s replacement will be Monsignor Richard Colletti, who will arrive in Adrian next week.

Dear Helen Wolf’s funeral Mass was Tuesday, December 20th.  More of this next week.

The Vikings lost big time last Sunday.  They almost got “kicked” out by the Indianapolis Colts.  At least they played in comfort at the beautiful U.S. Bank stadium in downtown Minneapolis.  Kay Cox had three “kids”, two spouses, five grandchildren and three “significant others” at the game. Kay didn’t see any of them, but she heard their groans of disbelief.  Sunday was not a complete loss as the doorbell rang in the middle of the game and there stood a smiling Connie Kunkel with a plate of lefsa and a Christmas tin of warm “munchies”!  What a lovely and delicious surprise.  Move over Vivian Mueller, your daughter makes great lefsa.

This writer, K.C, wishes everyone a beautiful glorious Christmas.  God Bless everyone.  Be sure to attend services at the church of your choice.
