Readers don’t forget to take your clean warm coats, jackets, sweatshirts, mittens, scarves and boots to the Darla and Tony Parsley home during the month of October. Be sure the articles are clean and wearable. Thank you Parsley’s for this great charity.
The past several weeks there has been many former Adrian and Lismore residents who attended a funeral, a wedding or class reunion. It was good to have short visits and exchange a few words. Some out of town people were Raydell Lawrence, JoAnn Klein, Judy Suedkamp, Little “Betty”, Neal Loosbrock, Two lovely gals from Rock Rapids, Vaughn Winter and daughters, and children of Wilfred and Maddie Winters.
Congratulations to Mark Loosbrock and his daughter Jessica Fedt who met and visited with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Jessica’s front yard was the winner of the Argus Leader’s contest. There are many more in our area who were able to get tickets for the Garth concerts. My grandson Adam Cox and Barb Reker and friends also are fans and went
to one of the nine concerts held in Sioux Falls. Garth’s wife Trisha Yearwood and friend ate at Phillips Diner in downtown Sioux Falls. I have been in the cafe many times. In fact I can clearly remember the arguments in Sioux Falls about the diner being allowed to do business at that corner! It was thought to be out of character among the many other “fine” buildings! The Philips Diner proved them wrong.
Sunday, September 24th was a busy time for the three cluster parishes of St Adrian, Lismore, St Kilian and Wilmont. There were 17 young people who received the Rite of Confirmation. Doing honors at the 10:30 mass in St Adrian were Bishop John Quinn, Father Rick Colletti and Deacon Vern Behrends. Music was provided by members of the three parishes choirs with David Knips at the organ and piano. The confirmation rite was conducted during Mass. Each student was attended by their sponsor and their parents. The students also were part of the mass. A reception in the church parlor was attended by the confirmation participants.
All in all it was a beautiful ceremony. It was so good to see so many out of town attendants.
Two classes from St. Adrian held their reunions at church on September 24th. The classes of 1952 and 1953 met Saturday night at the Countryside Inn. There were twenty-one former students attending for lots of food and lost of “chatter”. The two classes also attended mass at St Adrian on Sunday and were recognized by Bishop Quinn with a round of applause. The classes
also had their noon meal at the Countryside Inn after mass. The former students came from all over. Former Adrianite Jan Schraad of California had to cancel at the last minute due to the sudden death of her 19 year old grandson. Her classmates felt her sorrow too. These reunions become more precious as the years roll by.
The Viking – Tampa Bay game was a big surprise, according to lots of coverage the Vikings would lose. I guess you never know until last whistle blows! Quarterback Case Keenum is proving to be a star. The big Vikings stadium in
downtown Minneapolis was a sell out.
The American Legion Post #32 Sons of Legion members put on a full breakfast last Sunday, September 24th. The crowd was not large due to a very busy Sunday, but the food was good and plentiful. That beautiful Legion is kept very busy with lots of activities.
This writer has just laid down for a rest Sunday afternoon when five minutes of hail and gusty wind made me leap of the davenport and rush to the window. Minnesota is so fickle.
At the last Catholic Daughter meeting on Thursday, September 21st, Alice Cook and Rosie Heitkamp received their 50 year pins. Both ladies are very active in the court. Congratulations.
Congratulations to the Bullerman Angus Farm for winning at the Minnesota State Fair. The Bullerman Angus are known all over the world.
Don’t forget St Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth is having fall dinner on October 1st.
Please say a prayer for my dear friend Nyla Bullerman who had heart surgery.
