Adrian News 7-24-19

Christmas in July is in the books for 2019.  What a day!  Despite the three different storms that blew through and the cancellations of a lot of the events, the day turned out to be beautiful and a great crowd was in town for the parade and at the food stand afterwards!  It was a great parade!  There were four class reunions represented in the parade and there were at least two more going on over the weekend.  The Legion celebrated 100 years and Carl’s Farm Store celebrated 60 years.  It was a big weekend.  Thank you to the Town and Country members for all of their hard work!

There was a great turn-out for the Fox Mound 5K on Saturday morning despite the storm that swept through the area. The Dragon X-tra Mile Club found out how awesome Adrian residents are. As the sky grew dark, people at the 5K were warned about the severe thunderstorm that would hit the town in a matter of minutes. Just as the race concluded and awards were handed out, the tent began to collapse as winds whipped through the parking lot behind Keith’s Grocery. Everyone scrambled for cover and were ushered into Keith’s. When all were safely inside, fresh doughnuts were offered and gratefully received by everyone! It was a memorable 5K experience!

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Mary Kay (Bullerman) LaRocca.  Mary Kay passed away on April 29.   Mary Kay was the sister of  Shirley Vaselaar.  God bless the memory of  Mary Kay LaRocca.

That was quite a storm that blew in early Saturday morning.  A few trees and big branches were down.  For 75+ mile an hour winds we were fortunate there wasn’t more damage.  Our weather sure has been strange.  Oh and have you heard the cicadas?  They are starting to sing and the wasps are around already digging holes!

David Kruse, the seminarian who has made his home in Adrian for the last year will be leaving Adrian at the end of the month.  St. Adrian will be hosting a farewell reception for him on Sunday, July 28th.  David made a big impact on the lives of many, especially the younger people, while he was here.  Good luck in the future David!

Mark your calendars for the Fireman/EMS Appreciation Night on Monday, August 5th sponsored by Adrian Town and Country Assoc.  It will be held at the Adrian Fire Hall. It is free for the firemen and the EMS team, and the cost for the public is $10 per person.  Come out and show your appreciation for our local heroes!

Thought for the week: God makes us purposely different and different is not bad; it is God showing His creative variety.  Confidence begins with self acceptance.  Appreciate others for what they are and enjoy the wonderful person you are!
