Adrian News 7-19-17

Congratulations to the Tom and Trish Bullerman family for being named Nobles County Farm Family of the Year!  This family has worked so hard to build up their business.  Tom’s parents, Marlene and ‘Boysie’ Bullerman were just named as another 2017 Century Farm.  It’s good to have so many young Bullermans wanting to farm.

There were lots of visitors from all over the country who “came home” for Christmas in July, Rims and Ribs, and class reunions!!   So great to see so many in church on Sunday!

Lots of articles in area newspapers about Cody Schilling being named men’s head basketball coach at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD.

Catholic Daughters Court #247 held their annual Salad and Dessert Luncheon on Wednesday, July 14th, in  St. Adrian’s church parlor beginning at 11:00 a.m..  The decorations were done by Kathy (Scot) Henning and were beautiful.  Members of the Court supplied all the food, and many served as well.  The dessert table was in the capable hands of Rita Domagala and you heard a  lot of “oh my”!  Father Colletti was able to enjoy his lunch before heading out to the golf course!!  A large crowd enjoyed the good food and fellowship, coming from Luverne, Lismore, Wilmont, St. Kilian,  Rushmore, Worthington, Ellsworth, and as far as Texas!  The co-chairpersons were Carol Rupp and Donna Lewis.  It was a great time for all!!

We need rain, so don’t stop praying!  Our neighbors in North and South Dakota are getting desperate.

The reopening of the Adrian Branch Library took place at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 14.  One word was used to describe the morning- UNBELIEVABLE!!  A short program included short talks from County Commissioner Gene Metz,  Library Director Clint Wulthuizen and branch Librarian, Meredith Vaselaar, who was radiant with joy!  Delicious sugar cookies, made by Keith’s Grocery, along with coffee and juice were served.  The library ‘crew’ were busy checking books out and all were smiles while using the new equipment.  It was a great day for our Adrian area to see the wonderful new changes to our beloved library.  Stop in and see for yourself.  You will agree UNBELIEVABLE!

The four north Tennessee Ave. residents were delighted to have their big windows washed last week.  Ryan and Lisa Kruger and their two children pulled up, got out and quickly sprayed and shinned up the big picture windows for us!  I was thrilled to get my east windows all washed.  Thank you St. Adrian Youth!

Father Marty Schaefer celebrated 25 years in the priesthood at a 5 p.m. Mass in St. Adrian on Thursday, July 13th.  After Mass, everyone was invited down to the church parlor to enjoy a grilled supper including ice cream and bars.  Father Marty went from table to table visiting with everyone.  He gave a special blessing to all those who asked.  It was a special time of fellowship for all of us.

It has been a fun last 10 days for Wayne and Sharon Jones.  They started by traveling to Omaha to watch grandson, Josh,  (Jennifer and Darren), play with his “Thunder” baseball team in the state tournament held in Lincoln, NE.  They then traveled to Montezuma IA, to watch granddaughters Hanna and Kailey (Darin and Kris), both pitchers for the “Montezuma Bravettes” softball team, play in district tournaments.  Hanna pitched all four games to victory.  The Bravettes ended up district champions and will be playing in Iowa’s State High School Tournament at Fort Dodge, IA beginning July 17th.  Dad, Darin, is assistant coach and mom, Kris is the official score keeper.  It’s been a fun summer of softball and baseball.  Hopefully it continues all week in Fort Dodge.  GO BRAVETTES!!

Adrian’s 6th annual Ribs and Rims was held on Friday evening beginning at 5:30.  The event was held under a large tent behind the Government Building.  A large crowd stood in line and were not disappointed.  The ribs were grilled by Seth Darling.  The white picnic tables were provided by Chad Lonneman.  What would we do without these giving people?  Young people helped out where ever they were needed, from washing tables to helping carry food.  The proceeds will go to the four area fire departments and the Adrian EMS.  Rumor has it that about 1100 people were served!  What a great benefit for the whole area!

The hot weather did not stop the activities of Christmas in July!  Lots of class reunions took place last weekend also.  So good to see so many old friends!  The food stand in Adrian’s Fire Hall was cochaired by Deb Kroon, Howie Luitjens (Howie’s Floral) and Randall Roloff.  LuAnn Reisdorfer has inherited her mom’s knack for making cream puffs.  She made them as a special treat for the food stand.

Readers, I just want you to know that Judy (Tim) Honermann painted her entire big house by herself!!

Little Merritt Richard Cox, son of Mitchell and Kayla, was baptized on Sunday, July 16th after Mass at St. Adrian.  Godparents for Merritt are Whitney Cox and Michael Pittman of Sioux Falls.  Father Colletti presided over the event.  A dinner followed at the Cox Farm.  Merritt has two brothers, Marshall, age 4, and Mason, age 2.  There were 9 grandparents present at the baptism.

Correction – The new business at the Rock County Historical Center is called “the Christmas Haus”.

Next week I will have an account of the Lonneman/Altman wedding, which was held at St. Anthony Church in Lismore.
