Adrian News 2-20-19

A big congratulations to the Worthington Gymnastics team for winning a state birth for the fifth year in a row.  Adrian gymnasts Gracia Elais and Hali Heitkamp both were first place winners in several events to help the team win.  The team also took Section  3A Academic Team Honors with a collective 3.944 GPA.  They compete at the U of M Maturi Pavillion on Friday.  Congratulations and good luck!

More snow predicted for this week and cold weather a well.  Spring is only a month off.  Hopefully the ground hog knows what he is talking about!

The AHS Wrestling team has finished their 2018-2019 wrestling season as they were defeated this past weekend at sections.  Individual sections are this next weekend.  Good luck wrestlers!

The Adrian speech team continues to do well as their season moves on.  Congratulations for a second place win at the Redwood Valley Invitational in the small school division!

Be sure to plan to attend the Marten Twins benefit on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Elementary school.

The AHS BBB has been busy despite the cold.  They have lost two and won one in the last week.   They are quickly winding down their season.  The Girls are entering sectional play beginning this coming Thursday.  Winter sports are winding down.

This past weekend, Meredith Stanton Vaselaar was in Rochester, Minnesota, to visit her sister, Michelle Stanton, who is recovering from an illness.  While in Rochester, Meredith attended Sunday Mass at Assisi Heights with her cousin, Sister Severina Caron, and cousin Anna. In a few “those are life’s coincidences,” Meredith ran into Adrian native Sister Patricia Fritz, daughter of the late Raphael and Dorothy (Honermann) Fritz. Patricia’s first cousin is Shirley (Bullerman) Vaselaar, whose mother, Esther (Fritz) Bullerman, was Raphael’s sister; the youngest sister of Raphael and Esther, Sister Elaine Fritz, was Meredith’s and her cousin Anna’s fourth grade teacher at St. Mary’s Parochial School in Tracy, MN; Meredith and Anna  also met with their former St. Mary’s principal, Sister Alice Thraen.  An additional family connection is that Sister Patricia Fritz’s sister, Marjie, is married to Meredith’s cousin, Lane Riordan.

Coming up on March 3, The United Methodist Church will hold a free will Soup Dinner from 11:00 to 1:00 at the American Legion building.  They will be serving soups, bread, and desserts.  Plan to attend!

On Thursday, February 21, the Adrian Senior Dining Center has  “Bring A Friend Day” and cards, and on February 28th, they celebrate February birthdays.  Be sure to call ahead so they have a count for dinner.

Thought for the week: Life isn’t always the way we want it to be; it doesn’t always seem fair, in our eyes or from our perspective.  We must resist the urge to doubt or judge like Jonah.  Our part is to have faith and believe that God is just and all is in His control.

Have a great week!
