Nyla “Nonnie” Bullerman passed away December 8, surrounded by her loving family. Officiating at Nyla’s funeral Mass was Father Colletti and Father Seitz. Many of Nyla’s family took part in her services. At Nyla’s request she was wearing her favorite pink robe and slippers, and a pale yellow shawl was laid with her. Her granddaughter, Lacey, sang “The Wind Beneath My Wings” and “Home”. Sisters Hailee Wiertzema and McCall Lutmer also added to the beautiful music. Giving her eulogy was her son, Mark and daughters, Terri Petersen and Tami Heronimus. Her casket bears were her grandchildren. Her visitation started at noon and went until the beginning of Mass at 2:00 p.m. Donnie and Nyla were married for 62 years. God has blessed the memory of Nyla Bullerman. She will be dearly missed.
I have known Nyla for over fifty years, and never heard a negative word pass her lips. It is a privilege to have known her.
“Two Buck” meal will be held on December 21, at the Senior Center in the Slade Hotel. It is requested that instead of gifts, a paper article for Christmas be brought and shared. What a great idea! Call manager Marie at 483-2588 to claim your spot. We need everyone to keep the Center open, especially for the Meals on Wheels program.
I made an error in last week’s paper. The names of Terri Elias and Jolene Henning were not listed in the planning of Hap Henning’s birthday surprise party!
Virgil and Alice Cook and their family had a great time gathering for a “cookie bake.” The whole family was present to help cut, roll, bake and decorate cookies for the holidays. The grandchildren loved to help decorate, eat the cookies and play together! It was a great day for the Cook family, and may turn into a yearly Cook family tradition.
When reading the December 13th edition of the Daily Globe’s “50 Years Ago”, the following jumped out at me; “Worthington’s Dickey Pharmacy, 222 10th St., advertised a Sunday dinner for $1.25. The meal includes 1/4 of pan-fried chicken, or beef with a vegetable, salad, potatoes and gravy, homemade roll and butter and a beverage.” Need I say more!
The Catholic Daughters of St. Adrian held their December meeting on December 14, beginning with a pot luck supper at 6:00 p.m. Little did they know that it would become a cold, icy, miserable evening. The food was delicious and the meeting was fruitful. The
ladies came out to ice covered cars and streets. It was a slow and cold trip home. Lenore and Lynette Domeyer drove over from Worthington to attend the meeting and it took them two hours to get home. Many members called each other to make sure everyone got home. The ice was gone by mid morning the next day.
As we approach December 25th, the birth of our Savior, let us remember the victims of all the terrible fires and floods. These unfortunate people lost everything! One way to help a family at this Christmas time is to go to www.redwoodcu.org/northbayfirerelief.
All the money collected will go to the wildfire victims of the North Bay area. Maybe our small donations will give hope to a family who is homeless for Christmas.
Another charity for readers to consider is the Children’s Inn in Sioux Falls. The Inn is for victims of domestic violence and child abuse. The Inn is usually full of families fleeing an abuser. They seek help for themselves sometimes having nothing more than what they are wearing. The Inn will not turn anyone away. You can donate any amount. The address to donate to the Children’s Inn is: Lend-a-Hand, Argus Leader Media, Box 5034, Sioux Falls, SD 57117.
I would like to wish all my readers a blessed and joyful Christmas and a Happy New Year.! If you have a family gathering and would like to share, please call the Nobles County Review at 483-2213, or call me at 483-2718. It seems that people like to read about what goes on with friends and neighbors.
