On September 26th, thirty three people boarded a bus in Luverne, for a four day autumn pilgrimage with Father Jennings and parishioners from St. Catherine’s and surrounding towns. The theme of the pilgrimage was ‘God’s Creation’, and there was a lot within two hours of home to see. On day one, stops were made at the visitor’s center at Good Earth State Park, south of Sioux Falls; the Stensland Dairy near Larchwood, IA; and Sioux Land Energy and Livestock Co. near Rock Valley, IA (an ethanol plant). Mass for that day was held at the newly refurbished St. Mary’s Church in Rock Valley. Day two started with a trip to Irene, SD, where the pilgrims attended an all day retreat at the Broom Tree Retreat Center. Mass was celebrated in a small church that had been moved onto the retreat center grounds. Day three started in Yankton, SD, where Mass and a tour of Sacred Heart Monastery was in store. After a tour of Gavin’s Point Dam, the trip took them to Vermillion, to tour the Lewis and Clark Water Treatment Plant. After that, the next stop was the National Music Museum, which is located on the campus of USD in Vermillion. The last day saw the pilgrims tour Trinity Heights in Sioux City, IA. Mass was celebrated in the chapel. The 33 foot Sacred Heart of Jesus statue and the 30 foot Sacred Heart of Mary statue, carved in stainless steel, were so beautiful. Heading back to Luverne, one last stop was made in LeMars, IA, where Blue Bunny ice cream was a must have snack. The whole trip was prayerful, fun and informative. A lot of laughter and new friends made the trip great!
The Adrian Senior Center has a birthday dinner once a month for those whose birthdays fall in that month. Last Friday, September birthdays were celebrated for Carol Rupp and Carole Shorter. Yes, they had a cake and ice cream bar!
Congratulations to Kay Cox on the birth of her thirteenth great grand child! The baby, Alixis Jo, was born September 26th to Katie Jo and Jimmie Stone. Alixis Jo weighed 8 pounds, three ounces and was 21 inches long. Alixis Jo’s grandparents are Ann (Cox)and the late Don Hoemberg, and Jim and Kim Stone. Congratulations to all!

Congratulations to Tammy Loosbrock, who was named to a list of sixty critical care CEOs in 2017! This award is not the first for Tammy and the Sanford-Luverne Health System since she took over as CEO. It is great to have this facility so close to home. Tammy is married to Troy and they have four children. We are proud of you Tammy!
Congratulations to Landon Rogers and Alexia Kemper who were named 2017 AHS Homecoming King and Queen! Also congratulations to their court! What a great honor for all!
October 1st was a beautiful day to drive to St. Mary’s Catholic Church’s Fall Dinner in Ellsworth! Lots of hungry people turned out to enjoy a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and huge pieces of dessert. The table decorations were so unique with a fall theme. All church members turned out to take a turn at helping, even the kids!
Our hearts go out to the family of Mike Bullerman. What a tragedy! Mike’s funeral was Tuesday, October 3, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. More next week.
