Adrian News 10-23-19

It was a beautiful week this past week.  It gave the farmers a long needed break.  The combines and tractors were flying, trying to get their crops harvested.  It also was the week for many homeowners to work on trimming up their landscapes for the winter.  The city dumping area was full out into the street by late on Saturday!  It does sound as if the weather is going to be cool, at least for the next week.  Talking about the fires in California and the tornado that struck in Dallas, maybe we can live with our excessive wet weather. Food for thought!

Minnesota had a winning weekend, at least for college and professional sports.  The Gophers won, so did the Vikings, and the Wild.  Our Adrian Dragons dropped their last season game to Minnesota Valley Lutheran.  Their 4 and 4 record allowed them to host their first section play-off game against RTR on Tuesday.  The Cross Country team will travel to Madison, MN on Thursday, October 24, for the Section 3A meet.   Volleyball finished the season with a 28-2 record, earning the Red Rock Championship and the number one seed in the South Sub Section 3A tournament this week. Congratulations to all of the Dragon teams and good luck as you move forward on the road to State!

Tony and Darla Parsley are collecting coats from now through the end of October.  If you have gently used coats of any size or any winter clothing, please drop them off at 517 Maine Ave.  The time for donations is winding down.  Please be sure to check your closets if you haven’t already done so!  Watching the Sioux Falls coverage of the coat give-away really touches your heart.  People who need winter clothing are so grateful.

The clock moves back one hour on Sunday, November 3.  Mark your calendars!  If you think it’s dark early now…!

A big congratulations to Mike, Mel, Mari and Molly on the birth of their new baby Mabrey.  So much joy mingled with heart break.  Smiles and hugs to you!

Please keep in your prayers all of the special people among us who need prayers.  There is so much need.  Also add our farmers to your list.  Their safety during this hurried up harvest is a priority.

Highway 91 is not complete at this date.  There has been conversation concerning all of the traffic on the road, despite the fact that it is torn up, and still posted for local travel only.  This past weekend there was a deadly accident on the highway.  Please stay safe and stay off of it unless you live on it.  Travel smart!

On Friday, Oct. 25th, the Senior Dining Center will be hosting another $2 meal.  On the menu is baked ham and au gratin potatoes for starters.  Be sure to call ahead for reservations at 483-2741.  Where else can you get a good meal for $2?  Also next week is the October birthday party on Thursday, October 31.  Don’t miss out on the great food and good conversation!

Coming up in a couple of weeks is the referendum vote for the school.  Get informed on what the vote is about, form an opinion and come out and vote!

Thought for the week:  We cannot avoid those days when things go bad.  We can, though, decide how such circumstances will effect our lives.  We can complain and feel sorry for ourselves, or we can thank God for showering us with love and grace in the midst of those bad days.  What will you do?

Have a great week!
