Adrian News 10-16-19

Another sunny balmy week in Adrian!  NOT!  What a week last week was.  Beautiful weather at the beginning of the week. We saw farmers in the fields, people working in gardens, a beautiful start to fall.  Even with the weather channels telling us a storm was coming, it was hard to see the snow fly and the cold wind blow.  This week is supposed to show better weather.  Let’s hope so otherwise it will be a long winter!

For all of the Hallmark fans out there-the Christmas season begins next week.  Love to watch Hallmark, but two months is a long time.  A lot of the stores you go in to have Christmas up, and the commercials are beginning to show up on TV.  I guess there are only 70 days until Christmas!!

The Senior Dining Center will be holding it’s $2 meal on Friday, October 25th.  Mark your calendar.  The menu is baked ham, au gratin potatoes, peaches, cornbread and a bar.  Be sure to call ahead for reservations.

Matter of Balance-a program offering support to older individuals to empower them to live safely and independently as long as possible, will begin on October 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Dining Center.  It runs for eight weeks.  Check out the details in the article in this week’s NCR.  Don’t miss out on these free programs, especially when offered right here in Adrian.

Tony and Darla Parsley are collecting coats from now through the end of October.  If you have gently used coats of any size or any winter clothing, please drop them off at 517 Maine Ave., so someone who is in need will get warm clothes before winter sets in.

Helen Broesder, a former Adrian Resident passed away on October 11 in Waseca, where she was a resident of Lake Shore Nursing Home.  Our deepest sympathies to her family.  God bless the memory of Helen Broesder.

In AHS sports, the Volleyball girls had only one match against MCC on Oct. 8th, which they won in three and are undefeated in conference play; the football team fell to Springfield on a crummy night 20 to 7; and the cross country team held the Adrian Invite at the Adrian Golf course, and the team did well.  Football and volleyball are down to the last week before section play begins – Volleyball played in Westbrook on Monday and Luverne on Tuesday and football is in New Ulm on Wednesday. Cross country has a conference meet this week in Slayton, with sections scheduled for next Friday, Oct. 25 at Luverne.

MEA break is scheduled for the latter part of this week.  Be sure to watch out for kids that are out of school, and please keep an eye out for farmers with big equipment.  Give them space!

The AES teachers have been busy preparing for the Fall Festival, which will be held on October 24 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. There will be a wide variety of activities happening that evening, as students are encouraged to dress up for the costume parade which will be held at 6:45 p.m. A hot dog meal (free will offering) will also be available, consisting of a hot dog, chips, and a water. There will also be games and other activities for students to participate in throughout the evening as well.  Area businesses and residents will be in the parking lot with trick or trunk fun as a bonus.

Please keep in your thoughts and prayers all of the people in our area who need extra hugs and prayers.

Thought for the week:  If we plant encouragement in the lives of other people, we will reap a harvest of encouragement in our own.

Have a great week!
