Adrian Cross Country begins their season at the Paul Metcalf Invitational

The Adrian Cross Country team competed in Mountain Lake to start off their 2017 season. The first race of the warm summer day belonged to the varsity girls. Sophomore Moriah Bullerman was the first Adrian runner to complete the rolling 5,000 meter course in 22:28 and earned 18th place in the 100 runner field. Bullerman was followed by 8th grader Hiltyn Heitkamp (25:03), freshman Gracia Elias (26:01) and junior Halle Heitkamp (26:12). Courtney Penning rounded out the top 5 for the Dragons in 30:24. The girls placed 9th as a team.

After the girls completed their 5K, it was the boys’ turn to race the course. Senior Brady Henning had a solid first meet performance. Henning was able to go out with the lead pack and finished 2nd overall of the 130 runners. His time was 17:16. Christian Weidert was the second Adrian runner and clocked a time of 19:40. Caleb Hornstein was the 3rd runner for the Dragons and finished with a time of 22:12. The Adrian boys had an incomplete team for scoring which requires five runners.

Once the varsity races concluded, it was the junior high runners who had a chance to take on the course. Ashlee Christians was the first junior high girl to cross the finish line in 9:17 for the 1600 meter race and fellow 8th grader Abbey Leopold came in at 9:26. Finally, junior high runner William White-Mclesie had his opportunity to get his first career race in. Will clocked a time of 8:51 in the 1600 meter race. Both junior high teams were incomplete.

The Dragons will travel to Tracy on Thursday, September 7th and will look to continue to improve!
