On Thursday, April 18th, the girls softball team traveled to Slayton due to the diamond being too wet in Ellsworth. Field conditions were playable, but the outfield was pretty soggy.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. The first Slayton batter of the inning, hit a fly ball to the outfield. Our outfielder slipped and the ball landed on the field. The next batter walked, followed by an error, another walk and a grand slam. An error and two hits made the score 7-0. They scored again in the bottom of the 4th inning on a walk, an error, a home run and a fielder’s choice to make the final score 11-0.
Offensively the bats never got going. There were no hits allowed by the MCC pitcher.
Defensively, Halle Heitkamp had 2 Assists and 1 Put Out (PO); Shawna Rogers, 1 PO; Avery Balster, 3 Assists; Autumn Grussing, 1 Assist and 5 PO and Jennifer Preuss, 5 PO.
Avery Balster took the loss, giving up 6 hits, 5 walks and striking out 2, Shawna Rogers pitched one inning striking out 2. Jennifer Preuss caught.
