On Saturday, July 2nd, Argonne Post 32 in Adrian held the first Dawg Days of Summer Veterans Summit. Shortly before noon the Rocky Mountain Dawgs traveling memorial roared into town, led by the restored military Jeep owned by Gary Reker and escorted by close to twenty motorcycles from the Legion Riders.
Set up across the street from the Legion Post, the memorial was open for viewing by 1 PM. The entire trailer and the pickup pulling it was adorned with decals detailing military service and sacrifice and the photos of Kevin Sonka’s son David, with his K9 Flex, and SSgt Christopher Diaz, another of those who are honored by the memorial. Eleven different flags fly from the top of the trailer including Old Glory, service flags and the Gold Star Flag.
Inside of the memorial visitors found photos of the thirty-one Military Working Dog handlers that have been killed in the line of duty during the War on Terror. They line each side of the trailer and lead to the front where an important display is found.
