Adrian is scheduled to hold three home meets during this COVID season and the first was held on Thursday, September 17, a dual meet against the Mt. Lake Area squad.
The first meet of the day was the Junior High Girl’s 2,100 meter run. The girl’s had another fantastic day as they claimed the first three places in the race. Lucy Thier was the top Dragon, running 9:16. Second was Keyona Klingenberg, pacing the course in 9:20 and Olivia Bullerman was third in 9:23. Jozie Cuperus had a big performance as she placed 6th and ran 9:47. Mikaiah VanDyke was 8th in 10:13 and Kaitlyn Taylor ran 12:47. The Dragons won the event with a score of 20.
The Boy’s Junior High race was next. Garrett Penning was the top runner for the boy’s, running 9:42 and placing 7th. Darwin Demarrius was close behind placing 8th and ran 9:47. Nate Onken came through in 10:47. Karson Altman was able to complete the run in 11 minutes even. Jack Rahe was quickly behind him in 11:06. Cael Hendel and Lane Hoffman came in at 11:56 and 13:38 respectively. The Dragons placed 2nd.
The Varsity Girl’s followed the Junior High running a 5,000 meter course. Junior, Hiltyn Heitkamp had a big day, getting out to a strong start, placing 3rd overall in a field of 18 in a time of 24:06. Taya Elias continued her strong year as she ran 26:02. Hunter Penning finished the race well in 26:09. Senior, Gracia Elias had a run of 28:43 to place 11th. Isabel Thier finished the 5,000 meters in 30:41 and Kaysie Lenz ran a personal best time of 32:51. The Dragons placed 2nd as a team.
Finally, the Boy’s Varsity was up. Teamwork was the theme of the race. Senior and sophomore Linkin Bossert and Dylan Graff worked together a vast majority of the run to run 20:43 and 20:50 respectively to place 9th and 10th. Micah Onken continued his consistent season as he ran 22:07. Cole Boltjes battled the entire race and ran 23:37 in 18th place. Bruce Farinella rounded out the top five for Adrian as he ran another season best in 24:13.
