A Mass of Christian Burial for Franklin Rollin Van Horsen, age 93, of Adrian, MN will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, February 28, 2020, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2020, from 4-7 p.m., with parish prayers at 7 p.m., at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion, will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery. Frank died Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Minnesota Veteran Home in Luverne. He was born May 21, 1926, in Littleton, CO, to Daniel and Jeanetta (Druger) Van Horsen. He moved to Minnesota as an infant and lived in the Adrian area most of his life. When he was thirteen years old, he made his home with the Ed and Margaret Dorn family until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1950. He was honorably discharged in 1952 and returned to the Dorn family.
Frank married Mildred Metz on September 29, 1953, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. The couple lived in Adrian all of their married lives. They farmed a few miles outside of Adrian before moving into town in 1968. Frank later worked for the Adrian School District as a custodian, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church. After he retired, Frank enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. His favorite hobbies were woodworking, making many projects for his family, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and feeding the squirrels.
Frank is survived by his wife, Mildred Van Horsen, Adrian, MN; eight children, Dan (Pat) Van Horsen, Sheldon, IA; Dale (Mary) Van Horsen, Adrian, MN; Susan (Bob) Rubin, Stewartville, MN; Steve Van Horsen, Adrian, MN; Mike (Jackie) Van Horsen, Worthington, MN; Karen (Brad) Lenz, Brandon, SD; Ron (Tammy) Van Horsen, Adrian, MN; and Lori (John) Sandhurst, Worthington, MN; eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Jan) Lappin, Algona, IA; and a sister, JoAnn (John) Hilgendorf, Welcome, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Deborah Van Horsen on June 28, 2013; four brothers; and three sisters.
