The Adrian Dragons participated in the Region 1 – 9th grade qualifiers on Monday, January 20th in Jackson. Out of the ten wrestlers participating in the event, four will represent Adrian at the 9th grade State Meet on February 1st at Champlin Park High School. In order to qualify, a wrestler had to finish in the top two of their bracket. The four wrestlers to qualify for state included Cameron Wieneke, Quentin Wolf, Jaren Winselman, and Roberto Hernandez.
88- Moe Erdman went 2-2 for the tournament. He defeated Damian Ramirez (St. James) by fall in 2:09 and Torrin Clarke (F/MCC) by fall in 2:50.
100- Bruce Farinella lost his first two matches of the day and was eliminated from the tournament.
106- David Anaya went 3-2 on the day, but fell short of placing. Anaya earned two victories by fall and defeated Ronald Reinardy (Owatonna) by a 12-6 decision.
120- Reese Morrison lost his first two matches of the day and was eliminated from the tournament.
126- Breyer Hieronimus started his tournament with a fall over Mason Blum (Owatonna) in 1:46. In his next match Hieronimus lost by fall to Dylan Withers (Jackson). He fought his way back through the consolation bracket beating Joey Steinberg (Faribault) and Cael Gilbert (GMLOS) by fall, earning his chance for a true second match. Hieronimus ended up losing by a 3-1 decision, resulting in a 3rd place finish.
132- Rilee Heidebrink started his day strong defeating Kam Domeier (Fairmont/MCW) by fall in 1:13 and Michael Reinardy (Owatonna) by a 4-3 decision. In the first place match, Rilee fell to Corbin Ludemann (GMLOS) and that put him in a true second match. Facing off against Jackson Schild (Chatfield), Heidebrink lost by a 9-4 decision. Heidebrink finished the tournament in 3rd place.
160- Quentin Wolf won his first two matches of the day, defeating Derek Fast (St. James) by fall in :38 and Kadin Indrelie (Albert Lea) by a 5-1 decision. Wolf lost by a 11-4 decision in the final match and would have to face a true second match. Wolf finished his day earning 2nd place by defeating George Soto (Faribault) by a 4-3 decision. Wolf will advance to 9th grade state with his 2nd place finish.
170- Cameron Wieneke started his day by defeating Cameron Miller (Mankato West) by fall in 3:57 in the semifinals. In the finals match, Wieneke lost to Cody Anderson (Zumbrota-Mazeppa) by a 5-1 decision. Wieneke finished the day in 2nd place and advanced to 9th grade state.
189- Jaren Winselman spent about one minute on the mat in order to advance to the final match, defeating Dawson Risser (Owatonna) by fall in :55 and Alex McKinney (Zumbrota-Mazeppa) by fall in :14. In the finals match, Winselman fell to Max Olson (Fairmont/MCW) losing by pin. In his true second match, Winselman defeated Trenton Fontaine (Mankato West) by fall in :30. Winselman finished the tournament in 2nd and advances to the state tournament.
HWT- Roberto Hernandez won his first two matches by fall, defeating Noah Dinsmore (Mankato West) in 3:21 and Cameron Scholten (Jackson) in 2:46. In his finals match, Hernandez won a 4-3 decision over Gabriel Shatskikh (Faribault). Hernandez finished the tournament in 1st place and advanced to the 9th grade state tournament.
