Tuesday, November 5th proved to be a good day for the schools in the Southwest Minnesota area. The vote proved that residents all around the area are concerned about our schools and the future of our children.
The Adrian School District was successful getting both of questions on the ballot passed. The unofficial results for Question 1, to renew the existing referendum of $379.26 per pupil, was 324 yes votes with 63 votes against. For Question 2, to increase referendum by $483 per pupil, the vote was 276 yes votes and 106 votes against. The additional funds the referendum raises means District 511 will be able to continue to meet the needs of students and the school. It also means we are able to avoid the prospect of making painful reductions in staff and programs.
In Ellsworth, the one question on the ballot also passed with a total of 199 voters, 165 yeas and 34 no votes in regard to revoking the existing referendum revenue authorization of $1121 to replace it with $1779.50 per pupil.
Worthington voters, with three questions on the ballot, passed all of them. The voters agreed to fund a new intermediate school for 5th and 6th graders, with an additional amount to add room for the 3rd grade and they voted to refinance $14 million in 2017A bonds to make them eligible for the Minnesota State Ag2School tax credit.
Murray County Central passed their referendum that asked to renew the district’s current referendum revenue authorization of $625.69.
Jackson County Central also passed a referendum authorizing $35.4 million to build a new middle school for grades 6-8.
