Adrian Elementary School was a busy work zone through the summer months as the school installed a new heating system. After multiple break downs in the past few years, the Adrian Board of Education decided it was time to replace the 1954 Boiler system with a new propane heating system. The boiler system was identified in a 2018 facilities study as being a high priority for replacement. Last winter, we had two times that the boilers needed emergency repairs to keep them operational and allow school to be in session.
The boiler project included demolition of the older boiler system, installation of the new system and propane tanks to fuel the system. Additional fencing and landscaping were needed to complete the project. The $400,000 project began in the summer and is currently being finalized. To replace the boilers, the project manager needed to get creative and use a rigging system to lower the new system into the school basement. The boilers are currently in place and the team is finalizing the installation process just in time, as our temperatures are starting to trend down for the fall.
Several other maintenance projects, including more than $2 million in roof repairs over the next 10 years, were also identified in the facilities study completed by ISC Consulting, INC. Smaller projects such as maintaining our mechanical systems and updating interior surfaces such as flooring and repairing water damage are expected to cost the District another 1.8 million.
