Brandon Schnoor rushed for 180 yards, caught one ball for 10 yards, and added an interception on defense to lead the Dragons to a 20-6 homecoming win over the TMB Panthers.
The Dragons received the opening kickoff and drove the ball down the field, gaining four first downs. The drive stalled out at the TMB 35 yard line on a failed fourth down play. Adrian was able to get the ball back on the very next play when Lance Luettel tipped a pass that was intercepted by Schnoor. The Dragons gained one first down before penalties backed them up and forced a punt.
TMB punted after three plays to give Adrian another shot at offense. This Adrian drive was able to find the endzone. Schnoor rushed 29 yards to the one yard line, setting up a Ian Stamer QB sneak for a touchdown. Brady Vortherms made the extra point, giving the Dragons a 7-0 lead with 11:45 to play in the second quarter.
Adrian forced another TMB three and out to put the offense back on the field. A sack and a penalty forced an Adrian punt after three plays. TMB then found success on offense, with a 12 play, 80 yard drive that ended in the end zone. The two point try failed, leaving the score Adrian 7 TMB 6 with 1:29 to play in the first half.
Quinten Wolf returned the ball down the right sideline to the TMB 35 yard line to set up Adrian’s next drive. The Dragons could not capitalize on the field position and turned the ball over on downs with 27 seconds to play in the half. TMB threatened to score, but was turned away when the clock ran out on the half.
The Panthers opened the second half by returning the ball to their own 47 yard line. They went for it on fourth down and failed, giving Adrian the ball on their own 44 yard line. On a third down play, Schnoor broke off a 46 yard touchdown run to extend the Dragon lead. Vortherms converted the extra point, making the lead 14-6 Adrian.
TMB punted on their next drive after the Dragons forced a three and out. The Dragon offense kept the momentum with a seven play, 55 yard drive that ended with a Logan Taylor four yard touchdown run. The extra point failed, leaving the score Adrian 20, TMB 6 with 3:40 to play in the third quarter.
The Panthers drove the ball down to the Dragon 8 yard line before the defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs with 8:55 to play in the game. The Dragons gained one first down before being forced to punt the ball back to TMB. The Panthers then gained two first downs before again turning it over on downs.
Adrian had a chance to run the clock out with a first down, but could not get it done, punting the ball back to TMB with 1:28 to play in the game. The Dragons forced four incompletions to end the game and give the Dragons a 20-6 homecoming win.
Schnoor led all rushers with 180 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. Stamer carried seven times for 32 yards and a score. Taylor had six carries for one yard and a score. Isaac Bullerman ran twice for 23 yards.
The offensive line of Luettel, Axel Martinez, Beau Bullerman, Gabe Thier, Brandon Boltjes, Scot Edwards, and John Heidibrink, along with tight end Vortherms, blocked well for Adrian in the win.
Stamer completed three passes in the game for 31 yards. Schnoor caught one for 10 yards. Vortherms caught one for 17 yards. Preston Nelson caught the other for four yards.
Nelson led the Dragons with twelve tackles, including one for a loss. Tylor Hix had nine tackles to go along with 3.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks. Taylor had seven tackles with one for a loss. Quentin Wolf had seven tackles, including a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. Isaac Bullerman flew around and had six solo tackles. Stamer contributed with four solo tackles. Edwards had four tackles including one for a loss. Vortherms brought down the ball carrier four times. Grant Jansma, Martinez, and Schnoor all had two tackles. Schnoor had half a sack and an interception.
The TMB QB was under pressure all night from the defensive line of Luettel, Edwards, Hix, Martinez, and Boltjes.
The Dragons improved to 3-1 on the season and will look to get another win, Saturday September 28th in Wabasso. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 kick off.
