This past week the Ecumenical youth work group got together for the last time this summer. Two projects were completed by eight kids and four adults. We stained a deck in Ellsworth and scraped and painted a shed in Adrian. There was one shed we did not get to, as we ran out of time. It was a good start to hopefully a program that will continue next year. Each time we met, different kids came to help. The only one who attended all three events was Taylor Boltjes, granddaughter of Duane and Rita. Congrats Taylor for showing your willingness to help others.
The ACC held it’s 25th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 10. There was a good crowd who attended the festivities. The food was reported great and the dueling pianos was a great hit and enjoyed by those who went. Here’s to another 25 years!
Well, school is just around the corner. All of the fall sports started practice this past Monday. We can count on it getting hot once again. Next Tuesday, August 20th is meet the football players night. If you are interested in meeting the kids or taking pictures be sure to mark your calendar.
There is lots of construction going on in Adrian right now. The Catholic Church is getting a new roof and that is something to watch. The new sidewalks are progressing north along Maine Street, but they continue to postpone the Highway 91 project. Let’s hope that these companies are smart enough not to start just before harvest!
Listening to the reports on the progress of this year’s crops, it doesn’t sound real promising. We could use a little rain right about now. The lawns are turning brown and I heard that the crops could use a nice shot to help them fill out. Let’s get the prayers going.
The area lost yet another young child this week. Keep the Leuthold family in your prayers during this time of sorrow in the loss of their 7 year old son.
As long as you are asking God for help, please be sure to include others in our communities that you know need lots of prayers.
The Nobles County Fair for 2019 is history. I think the crowds may have been down a little. Be sure to check out all of the 4-H projects and ribbons from the fair. These hard working young people are to be commended for a job greatly done!
Coming up for the Senior Dining Center is Bring a Friend on Thursday, Aug. 15 and $2 meal day is Thursday, Aug. 22. If you haven’t been down to see the new dining center, be sure to check it out and bring along a friend. Call ahead for reservations.
Thought for the week: When encouraged to think positively, some people often respond”That is not reality.” But the truth is that positive thinking can change reality. It has been said that 90% of what we worry about never happens. Thinking negatively makes you miserable. Why be miserable when you can be happy?
